Markuze/Mabus Apparently Arrested

The Montreal Police announced on Twitter that a suspect has been arrested in the David Mabus/Dennis Markuze death threat case. Since Mabus/Markuze is the only possible suspect in the case, it must be him. Tim Farley has apparently confirmed that it was Mabus. I hope they can hold on to him.

Update: The Vancouver Sun confirms all of this, though they haven’t used his real name. He’s going to undergo a psychiatric evaluation; can’t imagine how that’s gonna turn out.

About Ed Brayton

After spending several years touring the country as a stand up comedian, Ed Brayton tired of explaining his jokes to small groups of dazed illiterates and turned to writing as the most common outlet for the voices in his head. He has appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show and the Thom Hartmann Show, and is almost certain that he is the only person ever to make fun of Chuck Norris on C-SPAN.

About damned time. He’s only been spamming outright death threats for, what, a decade?

I also love how (per the Tim Farley link) Markuze shot himself right in the foot by spamming the cops directly, and I especially love how that was probably the only thing that made the cops get off their asses in the first place.

Since Mabus/Markuze is the only possible suspect in the case, it must be him.

Unless Kyle Vanderbeek happened to be in Montreal. The police had to be dragged kicking and screaming into even starting an investigation and lied to the public about whether they’d been previously contacted…

Sheesh. About time. I hope he gets the help he needs.

The phase: “The Montreal Police announced on Twitter…” struck me as unusual. This is the first time I can remember hearing about a government agency, US or Canadian, using Twitter to make news releases.

I can see more use of Twitter in the future; fewer words would need to be labeled as misspoken and no more pesky questions reporters try to ask at press conferences.

May the great deity Ahura Mazda preserve me, when did I get so cynical?

Hopefully they’ll put him in a mental institution so he can get the help he obviously needs.

“The Montreal Police announced on Twitter…” Seriously?

  • Philip Legge

Rational Human, seriously. I suggest you check out @spvm if you want confirmation.

I join other commenters in hoping that this development leads to Markuze receiving (long overdue) appropriate treatment.

Update: Digital Cuttlefish had a link stating that Markuze has been committed to a psychiatric facility for a 30-day evaluation.

    And there was much rejoicing.
