Perry’s Florida Leadership Team

Perry’s Florida Leadership Team September 25, 2011

Rick Perry has named a “leadership team” for the Florida campaign and it includes some of the same dominionist whackos behind his prayer rally. Right Wing Watch reports on one of them, Pam Olsen, who heads the Tallahassee wing of the International House of Prayer. Here’s a video of her talking about seven mountains dominionism and her desire to take over the government — and about how she’s going to have the power to raise the dead soon.

Pam Olsen repeatedly claims, “we better know God’s word” where I assume she’s referring to the Bible. Therefore a reminder to Ms. Olsen:

34 the women should keep silence in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be subordinate, as even the law says. 35 If there is anything they desire to know, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church. [RSV, 1 Corinthians 14]

    and

12 I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve; 14 and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and became a transgressor. 15 Yet woman will be saved through bearing children, if she continues in faith and love and holiness, with modesty. [1 Timothy 2]

Is it just me, or does saying “god wants to come, like hot molten lava” seem like an oddly sexual turn of phrase?

Even if it is just me, I still had a good laugh. 🙂

  • ManOutOfTime

    @TX_secular – Hawt!

  • 386sx

I’m beginning to think Perry is dumb enough to believe that stuff. Either that or he’s incredibly dumb in the image projection department. Either way he’s too dumb to win an election except for in, like, really dumb sates. (I kid. Lol.)

  • John Hinkle

It’s a pity these godbots cannot understand they’re being played.

  • 386sx

I cringe every single time candidates play the ol’ “that dude is a flip-flopper” routine. Are there people who actually don’t think that’s stupid when they see it? That’s one thing in the ol’ bag-o-tricks that could definitely stand an upgrade.

  • D. C. Sessions

she’s going to have the power to raise the dead soon.

Maybe Perry is counting on that in the election.

  • raven

and about how she’s going to have the power to raise the dead soon.

???? Usually people who make that sort of claim are psychotic and heading toward the looney bin.

Although, it would be nice. We really need Thomas Jefferson, Lincoln, John Kennedy, Einstein, Eisenhower, Roosevelt, Newton, and a few other people back right now, badly.

And I miss my old cats a lot.

    As distinct from … ?

Do not make a mistake about Perry. He is many things, but dumb isn’t one of them. He’s simply decded that sucking up to those pathetic idiots will get him elected. He will do anything he thinks will get him elected, up to letting Texas murder an innocent man. But he is not stupid. Don’t underestimate him.

  • Trebuchet

So God’s going to cause the media to speak truth? Can we start with Fox news?

If Perry get’s nominated, I hope the Obama campaign won’t wimp out on showing the crazies he’s associated with. But I bet they’ll wimp out and choose to “take the high road”. No chance of the Repubs doing that.

I think you’re conflating attractiveness for intelligence. From my perspective he’s an idiot with no conscience whose past success comes from his ability to attract grass roots tribalists along with money from those who need their votes; neither of which require intelligence but instead loyalty to their respective causes.

My conclusions from Gov. Perry’s debate results seems to reinforce this position.

  • raven

I doubt Perry is very bright.

But he doesn’t have to be. Americans will elect morons for president. Bush was genuinely dumb and was elected twice.

Probably his strategy is to outcrazy the crazies and win the Tea Party nomination.

Then move toward the center and pretend to be a normal person. Why not, at that point the Tea Party will have no choice but to vote for him. They won’t vote for Obama after all.

Will it work? Who knows right now?

Obama’s only hope is for the Tea Party to nominate some eldritch horror from behond the formless chaos. Somebody truly repulsive. Perry fits that criterium but he is also an amoral demogogue who is good at hiding it.

    Re Michael Heath @ #12

I think it is dangerous to conclude that Governor Perry’s poor debate performance necessarily means he is a moron. It could be a consequence of his inexperience in joint news conferences of this type (this is not a debate, it is a joint news conference), although it does appear that the Governor is not very fast on his feet. I would agree, however, that the Governor, like Newt Gingrich, is immoral and duplicitous.

  • Pierce R. Butler

raven @ # 13: Bush was genuinely dumb and was elected twice.

By a very slack definition of “elected”!

  • Michael Heath

Actually his pathetic college grades indicated he was a moron where his responses to any questions I’ve encountered him answering, including at the debates, illustrate why he got bad grades – because he’s ill- or mis-informed.

Hell, at this point, Nixon wouldn’t be a bad choice for resurrection.

My stepfather just rolled over in his grave. He’d be stunned at an America that’s so far down the rabbit hole of right wing stupid that Nixon looks good. So glad he’s not alive to see what a cesspit this dump of a country has become.

  • llewelly

I forecast that Pam Olson will raise Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon from the dead.

And then, both Nixon and Reagan will endorse Barack Obama.

  • Aquaria

Oh, he’s a moron about the stuff you’d care about. But do not underestimate him. Ever. His political wits are razor sharp. Worst of all: He’s lucky.

He’s also been deep in the Democrat Party’s smoky back rooms, he was Al Gore’s Texas campaign chief in 1988, so he knows how Dems operate. He knows how to speak to their more conservative voters to swing them to his side of the fence. He does it all the damned time.

Keep going after how dumb he is, but be aware that something will fall into his lap, sooner or later, to make him look great while everyone else is covered in shit.

I think you guys are talking past each other.

I don’t think otrame or I would disagree with you that Perry isn’t terribly bright about book larnin’, but you cannot confuse that with political smarts. Rick Perry is no dummy when it comes to politics. He’s damned smart about putting himself in the right place at the right time and what to say to what audience. He’s done it all his political life. As stupid as Americans are now, they’ll believe anything this pig with lipstick will say. You are going to have to work against his political savvy, his folksy charm and his looks, before you can even get to the issues.

You guys are going to learn that. And probably the hard way.

    So stop underestimating him.

  • Aliasalpha

This international house of prayer… they don’t use the acronym do they? I’m just imagining a small group of confused people in the audience wondering when they’re going to get their pancakes

Perry isn’t terribly bright about book larnin’, but you cannot confuse that with political smarts.

Thats sort of what it looks like from the outside, he seems to be thick but the cunning, manipulative, petty, borderline evil kind of thick thats actually quite effective

  • frankniddy

I think her International House of Prayer might actually be worse for my mental health than the International House of Pancakes is for my physical health.

  • sezme

Is that one of those idiotic power bracelets she’s wearing on her right wrist?

  • Michael Heath

    Aquaria to me:

    So stop underestimating [Rick Perry].

I’ll predict right now Mr. Perry is toast. Not just when it comes to securing the ’12 nomination, but getting the VP nod or nomination in 2016.
