You’ve probably heard of Star Parker before. She was a walking symbol of everything the religious right things is wrong with America — single mother on welfare who had multiple abortions — until she came to Jesus. And now she writes weekly columns full of stupid and crazy for outlets like the Worldnutdaily. Her latest column contains more of the same:
How have we gone from a nation where our first president, George Washington, admonished that religion and morality are “indispensable” to ‘political prosperity” to one, today, in which our president says “same-sex couples should be able to get married?”
The same way we went from George Washington favoring religion and morality and outlawing slavery, giving women the right to vote and ending legal segregation and discrimination against black people, all of which were propped up by religion and claimed to be moral because they were commanded by God. We evolved. We realized that the morality is on the other side, that it is immoral to own another human being and immoral to deny women an equal voice in the country, no matter what your barbaric God might have said (or more accurately, no matter what the barbaric writers of the Bible claimed God told them). And it is equally immoral to deny equality to people on the basis of their sexual orientation. Morality governs actions that harm people or violate their rights against their consent. And that’s all it governs.
On the marriage issue, the national transformation has been breathtaking. A new Gallup poll shows the nation evenly divided – 50 percent saying same-sex marriage should be valid and 48 percent saying it should not be. When Gallup asked the same question in 1996, 68 percent opposed legalization of same sex marriage against 27 percent in favor.
In just 16 years the gap between those opposed and in support of same sex marriage has gone from a 41 point difference to practically zero.
Yep. You’re losing. You’ve already lost, it’s only a matter of time. Get used to it.
