Mega-Preacher Arrested for Injuring Daughter

TV evangelist and prosperity gospel con man Creflo Dollar was arrested in Georgia after allegedly roughing up his 15-year old daughter, who suffered what appear to be very minor injuries as a result.

Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of domestic violence at the home in unincorporated Fayette County around 1 a.m., Investigator Brent Rowan said. The 50-year-old pastor and his daughter were arguing over whether she could go to a party when Dollar “got physical” with her, leaving her with “superficial injuries,” Rowan said.

Dollar faces misdemeanor charges of simple battery and cruelty to children. He bonded out of Fayette County jail Friday morning. Dollar’s lawyer Nikki Bonner said he’s gathering information on the case and had no comment.

“It will be a better world when these guys can be arrested for perpetrating fraud on their followers.”

I wholeheartedly agree. Although I have to wonder if it’s that they can’t be arrested or that the powers that be don’t want to do it.

Religion is a business. Didn’t Jesus “Dollar” Christ say so?

  • It will be a better world when these guys can be arrested for perpetrating fraud on their followers.

By “these guys” I assume you mean preachers of prosperity theology? If so, how is that more a fraud than, well, any other kind of theology?

    Creflo Dollar

He isn’t even trying to hide the fact that he is all about the Benjamins, I’ll give him an F for effort. Definitely says something about his target audience though.

My old man used to “rough” me up, too. Took 40 years and a buttload of therapy to get over the emotional scars, but I still limp.

I don’t even know if the bastard is still alive and I don’t care.

Also the Great Priests of the Gold Worship

    And the supply-siders…

Oh no, I can’t wish bad things to happen to supply-siders less I’m accused og being like the pro celestial-psychopath cheerleaders.

  • Worse: PEOPLE ARE DEFENDING HIS ACTIONS and saying that his daughter deserved to be beaten, thrown around, and choked!

  • What WMDKitty said.

I have read comments sections to a couple of articles about this, and they are packed with comments defending Dollar.

Gretchen #3: Prosperity theology is worse because it’s a more direct “Give us your money” fraud. There are many versions of theology that are pretty silly and harmless compared to prosperity.

tommykey @ # 8: … packed with comments defending Dollar.

Why? He apparently used his hands, not the biblically-mandated rod!

I always thought Creflo Dollar and Cash Luna should go on tour together. The marketing writes itself.

@4: I’ve read somewhere that “Dollar” actually IS his last name. It’s probably the exact reverse of what you suggest (i.e., he probably thinks that it’s his “calling” to preach the “prosperity gospel” due to the last name he was born with).

I’m a bit disturbed by the downplaying of the girl’s injuries even here.

How many posts did it take for the word ‘slut’ to show up? 3? 4?

  • @Aliasalpha — I have no clue, the comments I saw showed up in reverse chronological order, and I wasn’t going to wade through 30-odd pages of victim-blaming on Yahoo! News.

I did leave a comment. The results were… ugly.

@#15, WMDKitty- yeah, the actual replies to your comment were kind of ugly (and stupid- I especially liked the one comparing Dollar and his daughter to a cop taking down a suspect- cuz we should definitely all treat our children the way cops treat suspects, right?), but…the thumbs-up were way in your favor- 13 to 1, I believe. Not that thumbs-up on a Yahoo comment board necessarily mean anything more than the replies, but, from my experience on those boards, the idiots are just louder, but not necessarily more numerous (in fact, their volume is what makes them seem like so many). I’ve pretty much given up commenting there for just that reason- you can’t fix stupid when it’s determined to stay that way, and the frustration from trying isn’t worth the effort (or the thumbs-up).

@15: I liked the comment by “Brown Eagle,” who suggested that a child as young as eight should get their own home!
