I just found out that Skip Evans has passed away. Most of you probably don’t know who he is, but Skip was a veteran warrior of the evolution/creationism battles, having worked for the National Center for Science Education and on the Panda’s Thumb. Skip is the guy who managed to get Kent Hovind’s dissertation from Patriot University, for those who are familiar with that whole situation.
I’ve known Skip for about 15 years. I last saw him about 4 years ago in Washington DC at the Americans United for Separation of Church and State annual conference, but we’ve kept in regular contact for a long time. I remember about 10 years ago when he was working for the NCSE and they were hosting a conference, he emailed me to remind me to send them some information they needed for my registration and said, “If you don’t get this to me by tomorrow, you’ll be served nothing but groul and Fresca while you’re here.” He was surprised to find out that I actually liked Fresca.
Skip was a good guy, very funny and mischievous. And I will miss him very much.
