Glenn Beck Launches ‘Patriot Camps’

Bill Berkowitz at Talk2Action reports that Glenn Beck has helped launch a series of summer camps for kids called Patriot Camps, created by the Constitutional Champions Foundation, an organization to which Beck made the first donation back in 2011 to get them started.

While you were blithely spending the summer with your children swimming and building sand castles at Orchard Beach, riding the Giant Dipper roller coaster at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk Amusement Park, water-parking, and/or hiking in the wild, a bunch of conservative parents – with support from Beck — were having their kids schooled in the Constitution and American history at Patriot Camps across the country.

The Constitutional Champions Foundation, a national non-profit 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2010 in part with seed money from Glenn Beck, sponsored a series of weeklong “Patriot Camps” all across the country this past summer…

In a 2011 clip from Beck’s Fox News show, “Miss Deb is sitting in the studio audience, alongside two other Pennsylvania moms, explaining the inspiration behind their camp. `One day,’ she begins, `we heard you talk on your radio about Obama organizations doing summer camps, and we thought, `No, we need to do our own!'”

Miss Deb recounted how after a fruitless search for a suitable camp with a “decent American Revolution curriculum,” they decided to put one together themselves. After telling her story, Beck chimed in with “And I started the fund-raiser for this, right? My wife and I wrote a check.”

Yvonne Donnelly, Beck’s ex-sister-in-law is not only the founder of Constitutional Champions, the umbrella nonprofit that propelled the moms’ Patriot Camp nationwide,” but she’s also the Chair of Beck’s 9/12 Project.

Berkowitz puts the punchline right up front, but I’ll put it at the bottom. After the horrific Anders Breivik shootings at a Norwegian summer camp for kids put on by a political party in July 2011, Beck said:

“And then there was a shooting at a political camp, which sounds a little like, you know, the Hitler youth or whatever. I mean, who does a camp for kids that’s all about politics? Disturbing.”

Sometimes I think the only person in the world that Beck wouldn’t think is just like Hitler would be Hitler himself.

  • Ed, pardon the OTness, but I thought you’d like to hear of this NY Republican — and Romney supporter — deliberately posting false information to cause panic among New Yorkers in the wake of super-storm Sandy (i.e., “Con Edison has begun shutting down ALL power in Manhattan.”):

During the storm last night, user @comfortablysmug was the source of a load of frightening but false information about conditions in New York City that spread wildly on Twitter and onto news broadcasts before ConEd, the MTA, and Wall Street sources had to take time out of the crisis situation to refute them.

And this time, the bad guy got called out:

What @comfortablysmug didn’t count on, apparently, was losing that anonymity. Based on photos he censored and posted to the account but I found unedited elsewhere, @comfortablysmug is Shashank Tripathi, a hedge-fund analyst and the campaign manager of Christopher R. Wight, this year’s Republican candidate for the U.S. House from New York’s 12th congressional district.

FEC documents show Wight has paid Tripathi thousands of dollars this election cycle as a “consultant.” @comfortablysmug has been a vocal supporter of Mitt Romney and posted tweets suggesting he attended this year’s Republican convention. He’s listed here by a local Republican group coordinating volunteers for a Romney phone bank. He’s 29 years old…

  • Why do I get the feeling they will be teaching something akin to the David Barton version of American history or the Constitution?

What kid wouldn’t want to go?

It should be illegal to misinform people, especially children, about the law.

Presumably Bek* favours the old style pledge –

the one fitting his political ideology, the one ending with ‘sieg heil‘ x 3.

    * when not grooming new victims to murder then rape, just like in the 90’s

The version of the constitution they teach won’t look like the cosntitution.

There is a third party called the Constitution party out here. Their platform has “god” in every sentence or two.

AFAICT, god is an abbreviation for far right wing extremist politics and “god” wants them to have lots of power and money. And of course, “god” loves them and hates everyone else.

David Barton will do the history which will be largely his lies and fiction.

I wonder if they will go all Jesus Camp and teach the kids how to be Jihadists, terrorists, and suicide bombers.

    Wouldn’t surprise me.

At the least they will get weapons training because “god” favorite amendment is always the Second one. This is Glenn Beck we are talking about, after all.

  • Where will children learn how to properly powder a wig, if not at a patriot camp?

I knew that Our Side (cackling and shrieks) intended to put all the True Patriots™ in re-education campsⓇ, but nobody cued me in till now that Blechh is one of Our agents.

After President rMoney does away with FEMA, Beck can buy the unused FEMA indoctrination/concentration camps real cheap.
