Bryan Fischer Award Nominee: Rush Limbaugh

The Bryan Fischer Award is given to those who demonstrate an incredible lack of self-awareness, accusing their opponents of having their own worst traits. Rush Limbaugh provides a textbook example of psychological projection in this statement about Gov. Chris Christie in the aftermath of the hurricane:

“Heed the warning. Except what Governor Christie says. He’s fat and a fool. Don’t listen to Governor Christie. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He makes fun of me all the time.”

Now it’s true that Rush Limbaugh is no longer fat; he’s lost a lot of weight the last few years. And I cringe every time I hear someone use that as an argument against him because it’s entirely irrelevant. But here he is doing the same thing. And isn’t it fascinating that he thinks Christie doesn’t know what he’s talking about now, when he’s praising President Obama’s actions. Was Limbaugh telling everyone not to listen to Christie two weeks ago when he was giving fiery speeches slamming Obama on Romney’s behalf? Was he calling him a fat fool then? Was he telling his listeners to ignore Christie because he dares to make fun of their leader then? Of course not.

‘Jabba da Rush’ gets the Fischer Award – and in other news, water discovered to be wet, film at 11.

  • Dingo, are you trying to make Ed cringe? Jabba da Rush seems an awful lot like a fat joke.

Didn’t Letterman say something to Limbaugh like, “Of course you can criticize his appearance because you’re such a fine figure of a man.”? I spent a little time googling it but couldn’t come up with the quote. Am I remembering this correctly?

And he might not be grotesquely fat anymore, but he’s hardly svelte (full disclosure, neither am I).

Christie is many things. Stupid is not among them. He’s smart enough to know that his own White House ambitions would actually be hurt by a Romney win, at least somewhat, by putting it off until 2020.

Meanwhile, if Romney loses he can say “I was able to work with a Democrat and get stuff for NJ” and try and get nominated in 2016. Of course, that may be a deal-breaker for the GOP by that point. It depends on whether the GOP leadership is smart enough to know a good thing when it sees one, which is putting New Jersey and by extension a good chunk of the Northeast in play. (For presidential races it simply has not been so since, what, the 1980s?)

All that is of course, largely speculation — it assumes the guy wants to be president and that the political landscape looks anything like today. That’s by no means sure.

  • Rush has lost weight. A bunch of it. All that’s left is asshole.

I don’t know, Limbaugh still looks pretty fat to me.

  • He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He makes fun of me all the time.

That latter sentence, Rush, doesn’t remotely support the former.

We need to replace the saying “In other news, dog bites man ” with “In other news, Republican displays hypocrisy”.

It’s not the fat (or lack thereof)around his belly that makes Limbaugh disgusting, it’s the fat between his ears.

You’re on a roll today. Well done.

    Rush has lost weight?

    Has he switched to meth?

Didn’t mr. Limbaugh “win” the award several times before? Just give him the special lifetime achievement award & be done with it.

  • Now it’s true that Rush Limbaugh is no longer fat…

    Maybe not as fat.

    Though your point is correct.

  • Christoph Burschka

He makes fun of me all the time.

The audacity! How can anyone make fun of Rush Limbaugh?
