Rep. Paul Broun of Georgia may have pulled into the lead in the competition for the title of Dumbest Right Wing Legislator with this argument for why the health care reform bill should not pay for sex change operations (which it doesn’t do, by the way):
“I don’t want to pay for a sex-change operation,” Broun told town hall attendees, presumably referring to a proposal, scrapped by the Obama administration late last month, that would have allowed gender confirmation surgeries to be covered under Medicare and Medicaid. “I’m not interested. I like being a boy.”
Two moronic arguments in one statement. Not being interested in changing your gender has nothing to do with whether other people can. And not liking it does not mean your tax dollars can’t pay for it. The list of things I don’t want my tax dollars to go for is very long. I don’t want it paying for the most bloated “defense” budget in the history of the world. I don’t want it paying for any more wars against countries that have done nothing to threaten or harm us. I don’t want it paying for tax breaks for companies that are setting records for high profits, or to pay for corn-based ethanol. That is not an argument against any of those programs, though.
