Limbaugh Tries That ‘Thoughtprint Decoding’

Rush Limbaugh tried his hand at that “thoughtprint decoding” thing the Worldnutdaily is so excited about, taking a shot at decoding what President Obama really means. See if you can make heads or tails of this staggeringly stupid explanation:

President Obama is sending secret, coded messages to Mexicans, letting citizens south of the border know that he agrees with their contention that much of the Southwestern U.S. rightfully belongs to Mexico, claims radio host Rush Limbaugh.

Last week, Obama addressed students at the Anthropology Museum in Mexico City, saying, “Our attitudes sometimes are trapped in old stereotypes. Some Americans only see the Mexico that is depicted in sensational headlines of violence and border crossings – and let’s admit it. Some Mexicans think that America disrespects Mexico, or thinks that America is trying to impose itself on Mexican sovereignty or just wants to wall ourselves off. And in both countries, such distortions create misunderstandings that make it harder for us to move forward together. So I’ve come to Mexico because I think it’s time for us to put the old mind-sets aside. It’s time to recognize new realities, including the impressive progress of today’s Mexico.”

Limbaugh says he was at first puzzled by Obama’s statement that America was imposing its sovereignty on Mexico, before it finally struck him.

“This sovereignty business, this is significant. This is not a throwaway. That’s a dog whistle,” he said.

“It’s a huge dog whistle to radicalized young Hispanic voters. What he did was send signals to that voting block beneath the radar, because most people not gonna understand what is sovereignty business. That block that’s underneath the radar – Telemundo, Univision – he’s telling them that he agrees with them that California should still be Mexico and that New Mexico should still be Mexico.”

And now that he’s said this stupid shit, he predicts that people will call him out for saying stupid shit:

“But we just blew his cover decoding this,” he continued. “I won’t be surprised if we get some blowback on this. They’ll start calling me a bunch of names and accusing me of making things up or accusing me of harboring hate for all these people. Accusing me of, once again, Limbaugh goes off on an extreme tangent, expect something like that, because this is huge. There are radicalized Mexicans [who believe] California’s still theirs, particularly Southern California. Arizona, New Mexico, radicals. And Obama’s just fueled ‘em. He just told ‘em he agrees with ‘em.”

Wow, you’re a prophet. “If I say something dumb, people will criticize me for saying something dumb.” Imagine that.

Did he just call Latino youth dogs?

  • dmcclean

Southern California is, in point of fact, “still theirs.”

  • angrymudcrab

To be fair to Rush, the right is very used to dog whistle politics, so it makes sense they would assume everyone else plays the same. After all, the unproductive welfare queens have enough time on their hands to think up devious strategies. /s

  • As far as the heads and tails of it, that was “… Mexicans … violence … ” The rest was just filler.

Oh, and as far as that “thoughtprint decoding” thing, the only reason Rush brought up dogwistles was as a subconscious admission that it was exactly what he was doing.

  • Trebuchet

@2: That would be “Lower California”. Or perhaps even “Below California”. And of course, they’ve been advertising it lately as “Baja Mexico” so ignorant Americans won’t get confused. Kind of like the state of New Mexico, which has been advertising itself as “New Mexico USA”.

Limbaugh know all about dog whistles, since that’s pretty much all he does. He knows very well that he’s just making shit up, and that the ditto-heads will eat it up. It’s all about the money.

  • Mr Ed

Now I know why everytime I hear Obama talk I want to Drink More Ovaltine

  • Projection vomit wrapped up in word salad.

  • Yeah — I once had a conversation with a fundy who was firmly convinced that New Mexico was not part of the US.

  • Chaos Engineer

he’s telling them that he agrees with them that California should still be Mexico and that New Mexico should still be Mexico.”

So Obama’s giving away two states that have been providing 60 reliable electoral votes for the Democrats for the past 20 years? That’s awfully generous…

This would at least make sense if he were giving Texas and Arizona away instead. Maybe just Arizona, since Texas will probably be a swing state in another 10 years.

Even if we imagine a scenario in which the White House and Congress wholeheartedly wanted to give New Mexico to Mexico with everything else remaining the same, Obama still couldn’t do it. That is one stupid claim.

Why don’t we combine Rush’s claims for a neat conspiracy. The secret Muslim in the White House will impose Sharia Law on New Mexico before handing it off to Mexico. This will infect all the Mexicans who will swarm north due to the new immigration law turning the U.S. into an Islamic State. Hey Rush, I don’t have the ear of the wingnuts so I need you to carry this warning to the others, ok?

  • This is another part of the GOP’s minority outreach program.

    Ooh, ooh! Let me try:

Mr Limbaugh uses the phrase “sovereignty business”, which means secretly he yearns for an America where sovereignty is ceded to big business, and the people are subjugated to the corporate world. He uses it multiple times. It’s a dead give-away.

He also uses “dog whistle” and “radicalized” in the same sentence, thus subconsciously signalling his desire to raise an army of right-wing activist schnauzers to terrorize the left in a bid to take over the country by force.

    How’d I do?

  • thumper1990

Jesus fucking wept, what a twat that man is.

  • So Obama wants to give away California and New Mexico, the two boarder states that vote democrat, but keep Arizona and Texas the two boarder states that vote republican?

As a fascist communist atheist Muslim born in Kenya myself, I will join with Rush and oppose Obama’s evil plan.

Instead we should give back Texas and Arizona, and throw in Oklahoma and Utah to as an apology. Also Mississippi, because lets be honest, who the fuck wants Mississippi.

When you start hearing secret coded messages in other people’s words, you are close to thinking that transmitters have been planted in your brain, and that the television is sending you personal commands. Of course, we already knew that LImbaugh was close to that, if indeed not already there.

“Radicalized” young Mexicans? Delusions are also part of that constellation of symptoms, although that may just be the self-imposed detachment from reality which is so distressingly common these days.

  • matty1

Seriously, while returning the conquered areas is a non-starter given the time that has passed and the number of Americans living there I do think Mexicans have legitimate grounds to be pissed off about the US invasion of 1846 and subsequent terms imposed.

  • Modusoperandi wins the thread and the Internet for today.

  • jamessweet

What’s so weird about this is that he clearly was referring to radicalized Mexicans who are resentful about the US holding formerly Mexican territory and fear that the US is trying to exert more and more control on Mexico… but he was referring to them negatively.

It really is just like the thoughtprint decoding bullshit, isn’t it? Obama: “I disagree with X.” Wingnut: “zomg he mentioned X, that means he is endorsing X!!!!!11!1!!1!11”

  • ottod

I’m pretty sure Mexico wouldn’t take Arizona. The last thing Mexico needs is another state with an incompetent administration riddled with corruption.

Are Telemundo and Univision really “under the radar”? Not according to Variety.

  • The Very Reverend Battleaxe of Knowledge

Are Telemundo and Univision really “under the radar”? Not according to Variety.

We don’t get Telemundo in this market, but I’m probably pulling up their ratings, because I frequently leave Univision on as a screensaver—they have hot women onscreen more of the time than any other channel, I think. I doubt if I’m the only one.

We do now have “Mundofox”. Is it as bad as regular Fox? It doesn’t serve as well as Univision, because it’s not high-def—again, in this market.

  • naturalcynic

Actually the state of California is properly Alta California.

And Mexico can have Alta Texas and Baja Oklahoma.

  • dugglebogey

If we “decode” what Limbaugh really means, the resulting racism, hated and misogyny is so disgusting we would never stop vomiting.

  • Rip Steakface

No, “dog whistle” is a term referring to actual covert messages in speeches. As mentioned in that link, the best example is the phrase “states’ rights” – often, it actually referred to racism that was implicitly supported by the notion of states’ rights.

  • Rip Steakface, no, “state’s rights” was only a dogwhistle when the Democrat party used it. Now that it’s a Republican thing, it’s a codeword for “freedom”. Also, “patriotism”. And “liberty”.

  • I’m sure Limbaugh referred to those networks as under the radar because his typical listener’s Spanish goes no further than taco and sombrero, and hence he can convince the suckers all sorts of lurid stuff is going on during their broadcasts.

  • Limbaugh’s typical listener probably thinks it’s pronounced take-o and only know the other as ‘them funny greaser hats’.

  • Wow, you’re a prophet. “If I say something dumb, people will criticize me for saying something dumb.” Imagine that.

Reminds me of the part of the Bible that says that there will be scoffers in the Last Days. Has there ever been a day when there weren’t scoffers?
