Bachmann: 9/11 Was God’s Judgment

At a prayer rally at the capitol, Michele Bachmann delivered a breathtakingly idiotic diatribe about how important it was to “humble ourselves” before an “almighty God” — because 9/11 (and Benghazi) was God’s “judgment” on the country. This video makes my skin crawl:

First of all, the idea that this is humbling themselves is nonsense. They’re calling maximum attention to themselves with ostentatious displays of piety, something that Jesus explicitly condemns. And if Benghazi was God’s judgment, why is she trying so hard to blame it on Hillary Clinton? What did she want Hillary to do, thwart God’s judgment by preventing it?

    Stock market at 15,000 — God’s judgment.

Random angry morons with pressure cookers — God’s judgment.

Has anyone figured out that god has remarkably poor judgment?

  • azportsider

How about this possibility: maybe some deity or other has taken umbrage with the US for, oh, I don’t know, any of a myriad of transgressions, and visited Michele Bachmann on us as punishment.

  • Raging Bee

Actually, God has PERFECT judgement — he just has lousy executioners.

  • Raging Bee

Also, is Bachmann going to admit that she and her party were wrong to attack Jeremiah Wright for saying what they’re now saying?

Anyone get a comment from Eric about the vote in Minnesota yet?

  • d.c.wilson

I meant from her. Damn autocorrect.

Since Bachmann has a nearly perfect track record of being wrong, we can assume that the gods really, really like us.

We know what is wrong with her. Severe fundie xian cognitive impairment syndrome. The big question is what is wrong with the people who keep reelecting her?

Hard to imagine a district with Michele Bachmann clones. Hmmm, well maybe not. It would be the perfect setting for a Stephen King horror novel. Or maybe a remake of Invasion of the Pod People.

In the Bible, when God has a problem with a nation he would send either angels, as with Sodom, or he’d have his chosen people to do his dirty work, as with Amalek. Is Bachmann saying that 9/11 and Benghazi are proof that God is on the Muslim’s side?

  • Ace of Sevens

You know who else said the attacks were God’s judgment? The people doing them.

Ah yes, I keep forgetting that Bachmann’s God likes to teach us all lessons by mass casualties and high body counts. That 2-year-old girl who was on the 2nd plane was vaporized along with her parents, for example. What is the lesson, Michelle? What are we to learn from that? God showed us all his might – apparently – by slaughtering 3000 people without any really clear, stated purpose.

If 9/11 was your god’s judgment, then your god is a genocidal, child-murdering a$$hole!

Does this woman always sound as if she were reading to preschoolers? Or just when she´s being dramatic?

  • lldayo

lamaria, that’s the only way her constituents understand what she’s saying.

  • mikeyb

Bachmann’s only god is her completely unconscious unrepentant narcissism.

It was absolutely necessary for God’s plan of salvation that Jesus be turned over to the Romans and sentenced to death, and Judas was evil and damned to hell for his part in helping to carry out that plan, and the Jews have blood guilt for all time for their part.

Christians have been engaging in bloody doublethink for thousands of years; Bachmann is just carrying on that ancient tradition.

There’s no more satire to be gleaned from this horrible, hateful person – something true of just about ALL “Republicans” now, even relatively “new” ones like Paul Ryan.

MB has my lowest possible respect. When she dies, I shall note that it wasn’t nearly soon enough, forgive her, and forget her – with ease.

  • Ichthyic

Can’t we just put her in a straightjacket and have done with it already?

The poor woman obviously needs serious therapy.

  • Loqi

She’s trying to blame it on Hillary because Bachmann thinks Hillary is god. That’s the only explanation that makes sense.

  • sunsangnim

There’s a being in the sky that’s causing terrorist attacks on the US? Can we send a drone to find it and kill it?

Now saying? I was continually barraged with preachers in the 1960s and 70s fantasizing about God punishing the U.S. for a whole host of reasons. Young men growing their hair long as justification for the eternal damnation of all Americans was my first hint these guys were idiots and their congregants passive sheep; as validated by their . The only difference between these preachers and Mr. Wright was those white preachers didn’t say, “damn” immediately after, “God”.

I just threw up in my mouth a bit. What a horrifically inedifying spectacle. I think the worst bit is that fake, whisper-y voice she puts on, ugh.

“Is there anything better we could do on that day?”; well yes, Michele, I can think of many better, more productive ways to spend a day than at your fucking stupid prayer rally.
