In Case You Don’t Despise Rumsfeld Enough

If, like me, you sit around sometimes wondering if Donald Rumsfeld could possibly do or say anything that could make you despise him even more than you already do, here’s your answer. At a conference put on by one of David Horowitz’ loathsome groups, he said he just couldn’t be sure whether Obama supported the terrorists or not.

“As you go around the country, do you have any sense or the same sort of sinking feeling that the rest of us have that [Obama has] actually switched sides in the War on Terror?” the man asked, drawing a smattering of applause from the audience.

“You know, I just don’t feel competent to answer,” Rumsfeld said. “I can’t tell.”

Rumsfeld added, “It bothers me greatly that he’s unwilling to identify the enemy. I don’t see how you win if you don’t.”

That’s just fucking vile. And dishonest. In other words, exactly what we’ve come to expect from a man who ought to be in prison.

In Case You Don’t Despise Rumsfeld Enough

I don’t think it’s possible to despise Rumsfield enough. You can’t have too much of a good thing, as my grand-daddy used to say.

  • Raging Bee

The guy who led an invasion of a country that had nothing to do with any enemy actions against us, is bitching about Obama “not identirying the enemy?” These Republicans are so far removed from reality that it’s literally impossible to reason with them.

  • dingojack

Rumsfeld added, “It bothers me greatly that [President Obama is] unwilling to identify the enemy. I don’t see how you win if you don’t.”

Says Donald ‘Al-Qaeda just flew a plane into the WTC, so let’s illegally invade Iraq’ Rumsfeld.

  • dingojack

    Damn, pipped at the post!

  • Synfandel

It’s arguable that President Obama has switched sides in the war on terror. He’s using unmanned drones to slaughter suspected enemies, along with innocent men, women, and children who happen to be in the vicinity. How is that not terror?

  • Pierce R. Butler

Given all the reports about the insurgents of Libya and Syria including high percentages of Al Qaeda fighters, Deadly Donald may have an (inadvertent) point.

Of course, if one unpatriotically remembers back to the ’80s, when Al Q formed up under Reaganista auspices, one could claim that Obama has just returned US policy full-circle.

Rumsfield lists a bunch of the GWOT infrastructure and complains that Obama didn’t keep up enough of it. Right. My primary complaint on Obama is that he has taken many of them and put them on steroids.

While Rumsfield doesn’t say things as plainly offensive as some faux news hosts (heh low bar, subterranean even), he was one of the single humans who made the decisions to both sell stuff to sadam and to set up the iraq as well as the GWOT.

There are assholes, there are assholey assholes, and there is Donald Rumsfeld: a more contempt-filled bastard bureaucrat hasn’t lived.

  • matty1

I wish to amend my stance on supernatural beings, there clearly is a Satan.

  • matty1

Oh and I can identify the enemy, in fact I just watched a short video of him.

  • marcus

Hard to do since Rumsfeld ranks infinity + 1 on my despicable scale.

  • Scr… Archivist

Rumsfeld added, “It bothers me greatly that he’s unwilling to identify the enemy. I don’t see how you win if you don’t.”

And just last month, at the National Defense University, Obama mentioned al-Qaida four times.

Hasn’t the former defense secretary ever read the 2001 Authorization of Military Force? Doesn’t he know what organization was the target of that declaration?

  • Reginald Selkirk

“You know, I just don’t feel competent to answer,” Rumsfeld said.

    A rare non-application of the Dunning-Kruger effect.

  • Ace of Sevens

Fine amount of gratitude for a guy who’s illegally keeping him out of prison.

  • imthegenieicandoanything

Since it looks unlikely he will ever be put on trial, I may well stoop to saying “Not soon enough!” when he dies. His is the kind of life that would make me withhold even the pretense of comfort for anyone unfortunate enough to grieve over his death.

America has been succeeded, in the last three generations, in nearly perfecting its human-monster breeding program – ours are as monstrous as any in the world, and more common – but Rummy & Dick are 1st generation, and in many ways the purest breed.

ALL “Republicans” can now simply fuck off.

  • kermit.

It’s clear enough that Rumsfeld loves the terrorists. If they didn’t exist, he’d have been forced to create them. In fact, the last administration worked very hard to create more. Without enemies, the right wing power lovers have no way to rally the voters and take their money. If they weren’t distracted by celebrity baby factories and gay marriage rights they might notice the climate emergency developing. Without someone to hate, they cannot even know who they are.

As to identifying the enemy, that’s easy. It’s the compassionate, the just, the educated, the sane, the scientists.

  • fifthdentist

Do I think Donald Rumsfeld rapes little boys, kills them with a rusty butter knife and then eats them? I can’t tell.

  • marcus

It bothers me greatly that he won’t share his recipes.

WTF, wait; I didn’t even have him listed as one of Glennie Bek’s unhinged co-conspirators in the abduction, rape, murder and cannibalism of thousands of orphaned youths between the late 1980’s and the mid-1990’s. Then again, Donny might have only been interested in the body part harvesting oppo. I mean human organs ARE fungible if you have enough money.

  • stuartsmith

I think you’re being rather unfair here. It’s obvious to me that what he meant is that he’s too incompetent to answer even simple questions with blindingly obvious answers. It’s rare that we get that kind of honesty from a conservative, and I for one applaud his forthrightness in confessing his own massive idiocy.

  • Artor

Well, considering that Obama refused to prosecute Bush, Rumsfeld, Rove, et al, I suppose that he is siding with terrorists after all. I do wish he’d change that. It would be nice to see more justice in the world.

  • lancifer

In a world where weasels measure each word Donald Rumsfeld said what he meant. You may not like what he said, or agree with him. But he spoke openly.

For that I will always admire him.
