Dean and Those ‘Radical Homosexuals’

I’ve noticed that anti-gay bigots can’t ever use the word “homosexual” without attaching the word “radical” to it. To them, all gay people are “radical” (a word they never actually define, of course). Bradlee Dean gives us a good example when he says:

“Barack Hussein Obama has appointed over 224 radical homosexuals to federal government positions in your country, not a Third World country, and even transvestites to go along with it.”

And by “radical homosexual” he of course means anyone he thinks is homosexual, with or without evidence. For instance:

“We have Elena Kagan and we have Justice Kennedy who we know that are homosexuals.”

No, we don’t know that. You especially don’t know that. And to Obama’s great credit, he has yet to appoint anyone as stupid and bigoted as you.

About Ed Brayton

After spending several years touring the country as a stand up comedian, Ed Brayton tired of explaining his jokes to small groups of dazed illiterates and turned to writing as the most common outlet for the voices in his head. He has appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show and the Thom Hartmann Show, and is almost certain that he is the only person ever to make fun of Chuck Norris on C-SPAN.

He does know that Obama didn’t appoint Kennedy, right? I mean, even if Kennedy were gay, Dean couldn’t count him as one of the “224 radical homosexuals” he claims Obama has appointed.

Is that like casting aspersions on your asparagus

He does know that Obama didn’t appoint Kennedy, right?

You don’t understand. In Dean’s world, it doesn’t actually matter if someone did something; it only matters that the (Muslim, Kenyan, Marxist, Fascist, n**ger) was present while something happened. Correlation is causation in wingnut “minds.”

  • Gregory in Seattle

“And to Obama’s great credit, he has yet to appoint anyone as stupid and bigoted as you.”

Which is likely why Dean and so many others on the radical fringe are so pissy.

  • Trickster Goddess

Usually for them a “radical” homosexual is any who won’t pretend that they are straight.

  • brucegee1962

Who are the transvestites? That would certainly make C-Span a bit more entertaining. Or did Obama go back in time and appoint J. Edgar Hoover?

  • birgerjohansson

Yum. If Dean is representative, the GOP is slowly dying of stupidity. Or is it like those organisms that don’t need a brain to survive?

  • John Pieret

Dean warned that “this agenda” is “aiming at our posterity,”

What do you want to bet that Dean menat “posterior”?

  • Larry

I have here in my hand, a list of 224 government employees that were known to Barrack Hussein Obama as radical homosexuals and transvestites and who, nevertheless, are still working and shaping the policy of the government.

At long last, Mr. Dean, have you no decency?

  • John Pieret

    Larry @ 9:

    Well played.

  • left0ver1under

Perhaps it’s time to apply the term “miliant” to any christian, muslim or other theist who doesn’t accede to the human rights of all people. Methinks I’ll be doing that from now on.

The only people who would object are, of course, the militant christians, jews, muslims, etc.

  • Modusoperandi

I’ve seen radical homosexuals, on skateboards, jumping over things. They’re pretty radical.

  • Alareth

The wingnuts just love Obama’s middle name don’t they?

  • Modusoperandi

Alareth “The wingnuts just love Obama’s middle name don’t they?”

Yeah. I never figured out what their issue with the king of Jordan was, though.

  • Abdul Alhazred

    Justice Keenedy? No way. 😉

A “radical” homosexual should mean an extra-stereotypical one. :)

  • holytape

I like how its “Elena Kagan” and not “Justice Kagen.”

  • dingojack

““Barack Hussein Obama has appointed over 224 radical homosexuals to federal government positions in your country, not a Third World country,…”

And Dean seriously wants us to believe that the President of the US has the authority to or ability to unilaterally appoint homosexuals (oops I beg your pardon, radical homosexuals [Cowabunga dudes!] to government positions in Tazbekistan* or somewhere? I mean seriously?!?

    * there is no such place, of course

  • matty1

Dingo don’t spoil the joke, I bet we could get wingnuts to support an invasion of Tazbekistan without too much effort.

  • Doug Little

    What, transvestites can’t be radical?

    Radical? Radishes? Raphanidosis!

  • DrewN

Typical McCarthyism, just replace “known homosexuals” with “known communists” and it sounds just like the 1950’s all over again.

  • Abdul Alhazred

    @21 —

Not by McCarthy himself perhaps, but the homosexual blackmail thing was very much a feature of that Red Scare Era that even persisted after the Red Scare itself was pretty much over.

McCarthy counsel, Rosenburg prosecutor, Mafia mouthpiece, swindler of widows and orphans, Roy Cohn was a specialist in that. Closeted gay too.

  • thebookofdave

    not a Third World country

Bradlee Dean and friends are working hard to change that. In the meantime, he should use that phrase like it’s going out of style.

  • kermit.

I remember a study done some years back. The researchers determined by a questionnaire which of a group of volunteers were open anti-Semitic. They then showed all the volunteers a number of photos of college students and asked which ones “looked Jewish” to them. The racists and non-racists were equally successful (that is, little better than chance) but the racists were much more sure of themselves than were the others.

  • timberwoof

kermit, there’s a scary scene in the movie Europa, Europa where a Jewish boy in a school for sons of Nazi officers (it’s a long story how he got there) was called to the front of an anthropology class. The professor got out a chart of eye colors and compared them to the boy’s blue eyes. He declared that the boy was a fine example of proud Aryan ancestry.

The whole Communist thing is actually still reverberating in the fundagelical mindset. One place where I worked was thick with them. One day one of them had a rage-attack and started screaming at me, saying what a bad person I was. She called me a Communist!, stormed out, and drove off. I was flabbergasted. I could think of worse things to be called; I suppose I should have giggled. The joke was on them: although they knew I was a D&D player, they did not know I was a self-avowed practicing radical homosexual. That would have made their heads explode.
