Fischer: Brennan is Muslim

One of the most bizarre memes circulating among the far right over the last year is the claim that John Brennan, now director of the CIA, was converted to Islam while serving as a station chief in Saudi Arabia. There isn’t a shred of evidence for it, but that has not stopped it from spreading among wingnuts like herpes. Because obviously the guy who endorsed the use of torture on terror suspects and built the drone bombing campaign is a pro-terrorist Muslim, right?

Sheesh! What do you suppose the guy actually did? Spoke to clerics? Stood next to a mosque one time or went in the door? Understood the culture enough to say something nuanced rather than relying on sweeping condemnations?

(I don’t know anything about this guy, but I’m curious about the process of wingnuts building something from a shred of nearly nothing.)

They just make it up. And are always making up new stories.

A staple of the superstitious fundies are stories about children abducted by satanists and sacrificed in their gruesome rites. They actually got the FBI to investigate this once. The FBI never found a single case. They still make these stories up though and people travel the fundie circuit telling about how they were abducted by satanists.

Hagee once claimed on TV that a million children in the USA are sacrificed by satanists on Halloween every year. No one has ever missed those million children though.

If he was doing his job at all competently he would have had to do all of those things. A spy who avoids all contact with the one of the most influential groups in the place he is stationed is pretty useless, ditto one who doesn’t know about the variety of opinions in the ‘host’ nation and how those might affect policy.

I’ve spent too long among feminists on Twitter.

I assumed this was going to be about Cathy Brennan.

Now that really would have been a turn up for the books.

‘Demonic’ Halloween Candy – Americans United for Separation of …

“[M]ost of the candy sold during this season has been dedicated and prayed over by witches,” Daniels wrote. “I do not buy candy during the Halloween season.

Kimberly Daniels claims Halloween candy is prayed over by witches who insert demons.

The fundies claim Proctor and Gamble is owned by satanists and proved it by their moon and stars logo. P&G once sued one and won but also got rid of their logo.

It can be amusing for whole minutes at a time. They will believe anything. Why not? In for a penny, in for a pound.

At its core, fundie xianity is just primitive superstition, something left over from the Dark Ages.

There isn’t a shred of evidence for it

But he says it with conviction, so I’m convinced.

Raven @5, I remember when P&G had to rebrand their logo to get rid of the moon-and-stars emblem, probably because it just became too much of a nuisance to defend it. In north Toronto, there is a P&G building through which I often pass to get to the subway. I noticed the other day that it still has a large, expensive-looking plaque of the moon-and-stars emblem hanging on the lobby wall. Perhaps it has just been there since before the logo switch, but they have not bothered to switch it. When I see it now, I think, “Good for them for not completely caving to the wackos.”

  • matty1

See if I was them I would have announced that there was going to be a new logo because of the complaints then unveiled an inverted pentagram with the slogan Satan Rules written underneath.

He is. We know this because, and I can’t stress this enough, he works for Obama. All of Obama’s staff are. They’re the Muslin Brotherhood. Even the ladies.

What do you think the so-called “CIA” so-called “drone” so-called “war” is for? No, it’s not for blowing up Muslins; Brennan’s arming them with explosions.

The first day I worked in a (broadcast) newsroom, I was told my job was to scare people. Specifically white people. When you scare someone, they stay tuned. And the white people had the money, so that’s who the advertisers wanted. (Yes, this really happened.)

All the right-wing agitprop bridage do with their stories is keep up the fright. It’s like a kind of Unabomber soap opera.

    raven @2

I actually saw Hagee make that claim. When I was younger and less likely to have a stroke from the outrage I used to watch whoever was the local Big Church guy occasionally, under the theory that it’s nice to know what your enemy is up to. The first time I watched Hagee after moving to San Antonio I saw him make that statement. Which is bad enough, but his audience sat there and nodded their heads. THAT is what really pissed me off.

Brennan ate falafel from a street vendor and put yogurt sauce on it. If that doesn’t make him a Muslim, I don’t know what does.

  • Michael Heath

I’d like to see John Brennan sue Fischer’s ass. People should pay dearly when they defame others.

It’s amusing that fundie Christians think religion is a communicable disease.
