Wingnut on Wingnut Crime: Cruz v Norquist

If you’re a Republican politician and you’ve managed to be too extreme on budget and spending issues even for Grover Norquist, that’s probably a good sign that you’ve gone off the deep end. In an interview with the Washington Post, Norquist hammered Ted Cruz:

I’m cheerful because every Republicans is for repeal of Obamacare. When’s the last time we passed a big government entitlement and every Republican opposed it and kept pointing out that it’s a mistake? There’s unanimity among Republicans. They all voted against the thing being created and for it being repealed.

The only confusion that comes out is that Cruz stood on the side and confused people about the fact that every Republican agrees. He said if you don’t agree with my tactic and with the specific structure of my idea, you’re bad. He said if the House would simply pass the bill with defunding he would force the Senate to act. He would lead this grass-roots movement that would get Democrats to change their mind. So the House passed it, it went to the Senate, and Ted Cruz said, oh, we don’t have the votes over here. And I can’t find the e-mails or ads targeting Democrats to support it. Cruz said he would deliver the votes and he didn’t deliver any Democratic votes. He pushed House Republicans into traffic and wandered away.

Pass the popcorn.

Funny how the spoiled little babies are screaming at each other and crying. Whenever a Republican opens their mouth anymore, all I hear are Veruca Salt quotes like:

They’re not even trying! They don’t want to find it! They’re jealous of me!

You promised I’d have it the very first day!

I won’t talk to you ever again! You’re a mean father, you’ll never give me anything I want! And I won’t go to school till I have it!

I want an Oompa Loompa now!

Wait, is Norquist actually implying Republicans actually believed Cruz would be able to strong-arm the defunding of the ACA through the Democratically-controlled Senate? That’s an astounding level of reality-denial even for Republicans.

  • John Pieret

He pushed House Republicans into traffic and wandered away.

Nice image but I’m with DaveL. Maybe the 40 or so Teabaggers in the House are so naive about the ways of Washington as to think Cruz could do more than grandstand in the Senate but the rest of the Republicans at least jumped into traffic with their eyes wide open.

Well the budget action Cruz was promising turned into a fiasco. But wait, another opportunity will come along some day.

Don’t worry, Charlie Brown. This time I’ll hold the football so you can get a good kick in.

  • Grover v Theodore?

    KKKonservaprickdouchebag & KKKonservaprickdouchebaggier?

  • Fuck Norquist — he and his mindless hatred of gummint spending are part of the problem. He’s just another dumbass ideologue looking for someone else to blame when his ideology doesn’t work.

I also have reason to think he’s at least a little bit retarded, or got hit on the head too many times as a child. I heard him talking about how he took a math class, and absolutely fell head-over-heels-starbursts in love with the concept of “less than,” which he’s ever since venerated as the most wonderful thing in his entire life and the ultimate answer to all questions of Life, the Universe, and Everything. The most charitable epithet that applies to him is “simpleton.”

  • Two douchebags publicly bickering about who has the best strategy for bringing down the nation? I’m going to need a bigger AG of popcorn.

  • Ugh should have been “bag of popcorn.” Stupid iPad autocorrect.

  • I recommend a cage match. They can try to drown each other in a bathtub.

  • Cruz said he would deliver the votes and he didn’t deliver any Democratic votes.

I agree with what others have said. The idea that Cruz was going to deliver Democratic votes against their own law, just because, is complete idiocy. I don’t know if Norquist is truly this dumb or if he’s just playing dumb in order to take a swipe at Cruz. But it does seem to hint at the broader problem, which that the Republicans can’t understand how this games out. “We, the party that lost the last election, expect you to give us dictatorial powers in exchange for not blowing up the country” simply isn’t going to work. And because they can’t admit this to themselves, they come up with delusions like the above. We are seriously screwed.

[Cruz] said if you don’t agree with my tactic and with the specific structure of my idea, you’re bad.

Grover, you’re not surprised, are you? I’m sure that page of your copy of the Republican playbook is pretty dog-eared.
