Friday and Saturday was the annual Values Voters Summit and it was everything we’ve come to expect from the theocratic conservative wing of the GOP. The disconnect from reality started with the very first speaker, Sen. Mike Lee, who says that theocons haven’t focused enough on the family.
Of course, when he says they should focus on the family, he means that they’re not sufficiently anti-gay, anti-choice and pro-prayer in schools. Because it’s not like nearly all of their organizations have “family” in their title (Focus on the Family, American Family Association, Family Research Council, etc). And it’s not like they’ve made those issues the cornerstone of their agenda for the last three and a half decades. Only on Planet Wingnuttia could someone actually believe that they haven’t paid enough attention to practically the only thing they’ve paid attention to for decades.
