Oh Goody, Another Rally of ‘Millions’ to Remove Obama

Following on the heels of the smashing failure of Larry Klayman’s “second American revolution,” a new group of wingnuts is planning a rally to demand the resignation of Obama and virtually every other Democrat in a position of power. And they’re going to get “millions, as many as ten million, patriots” to show up. It’s being called Operation American Spring and it’s announced by wingnut fraud Jim Garrow.

TO: Patriots (black, white, male, female, civilian, military, truckers, bikers, militias, veterans, old, young, every American that loves freedom and liberty)

Mission: Restoration of Constitutional government, rule of law, freedom, liberty “of the people, for the people, by the people” from despotic and tyrannical federal leadership.

Assumptions:

Millions of Americans will participate.

American veterans and patriots are energized to end the tyranny, lawlessness, and shredding of the US Constitution.

Government is not the target, it is sound; corrupt and criminal leadership must be removed.

Those in power will not hesitate to use force against unarmed patriots exercising their constitutional rights.

Patriots may be killed, wounded, incarcerated.

There is no hope given today’s technology of secrecy for the effort nor do we want it secret.

Concept of Operations:

Phase 1 – Field millions, as many as ten million, patriots who will assemble in a non-violent, physically unarmed (Spiritually/Constitutionally armed), display of unswerving loyalty to the US Constitution and against the incumbent government leadership, in Washington, D.C., with the mission to bring down the existing leadership. Go full-bore, no looking back, steadfast in the mission.

Phase 2 – One million or more of the assembled 10 million must be prepared to stay in D.C. as long as it takes to see Obama, Biden, Reid, McConnell, Boehner, Pelosi, and Attorney General Holder removed from office. The senior republican in the US House of Representatives will become Speaker of the House and the US House of Representatives will elect a temporary President and Vice President of the United States. The U.S. Senate will take action to elect a new majority and minority leader.

As required, the U.S. Congress will execute appropriate legislation to convene new elections or U.S. States will appoint replacements for positions vacated consistent with established constitutional requirements.

Phase 3 – Those with the principles of a West, Cruz, Lee, DeMint, Paul, Gov Walker, Sessions, Gowdy, Jordan, Issa, will comprise a tribunal and assume positions of authority to convene investigations, recommend appropriate charges against politicians and government employees to the new U.S. Attorney General appointed by the new President.

*All actions in Phase 2 & 3 will be consistent with the U.S. Constitution.

Date of Operation: “OPERATION AMERICAN SPRING – Beginning Of Tyranny Housecleaning, May 16, 2014, completion to be determined.

Prediction: A few hundred wingnuts will show up. And then they’ll declare it a success anyway, like Klayman did. Oh, and they want to “bathe this effort in prayer.” I’m sure that will work.

And where exactly is any of this nonsense they’re describing in “Phase 2” specified in the constitution they claim to be defending? I especially like the whole election of a temporary President and Vice President; apparently they’re choosing to ignore the law specifying presidential succession, undoubtedly because it would put members of the cabinet into those posts.

They might also be surprised to learn (assuming they even care) the senior Republican in the House would not magically become Speaker if Boehner is removed; the rules of the House say a new Speaker is elected by the whole House when the incumbent Speaker loses the post.

  • daved

Even from a logistical standpoint, it is hard to overstate the idiocy of this idea. The population of Washington DC is around 600,000, and then another 450,000 or so federal workers who commute there every day. So how are you going to pack a million, let alone ten million, additional people in there for an indefinite period? Facilities would be completely overloaded; indeed, just *getting* them into the city would be nearly impossible.

By way of comparison, the estimated attendance for the March on Washington in 1963 was around 300,000, and those people weren’t planning on staying indefinitely. Traffic was lighter then, and many of the attendees arrived by chartered bus.

Now, look, The People demanded Total Obstructionism, the Dismantling of the Liberal State (but not the Police State or the Military State), with the Destruction of Entitlements (but not Medicare or Social Security, except for people who aren’t already on them who’ll get Unregulated Free Market versions, which are better, because Unregulated Free Market, but I’ll keep the Single Payer and Socialist versions because shut up, that’s why), and the Vanqushing of the Muslin-in-Chief, his Communist Party, and the so-called “Republican” Establishment who let things like the UN’s Agenda 21 and Obamacare come to pass.

In short, we all know that it can’t be a real democracy if my choices (and only my choices) are enshrined in Law. Ergo, we have to burn it all down, saving only for the parts that I use, the parts that Punish Vice, and the parts that Explode Swarthy Foreigners.

  • longstreet63

Pretty standard “Man on a white horse” stuff that shows up with every military coup. Suspend the Constitution temporarily in order to eliminate corruption/restore order/provide for public safety. Just for the duration of the ‘Emergency”, of course.

Really, the only difference is the obviousness of their definition of corruption: Anyone not us who wins an election.

And @15 Gregory, it already is sedition, literally. We just don’t have a great comfort with prosecuting people for it, even if they shoot people in the process.

Although, I should note that the people making these rants DO NOT have that discomfort, and would doubtless not be satisfied until every taint of this week’s designated treason was stamped out.

The wingnuts in my local paper are going on about a call for something called a Convention of States.

    publius4ourtimes

    Rank 41

And so it begins—this country’s last hope to remain a constitutional republic: a Convention of States. Representatives and Senators from across the country have been talking about a movement by the states to flex their muscles under Article V of the Constitution for the past year, and it has finally started. I always thought Texas would be the first to stand up and call for the convention, but Florida is leading the way.

    http://www.mysanantonio.com/opinion/letters_to_the_editor/article/Your-Turn-Jan-2-5106726.php

There is a lot more to this rant, and the TP commenters there are supporting “an end to big government”, as usual.

Has anyone heard anything about this wingnut plan? Won’t it draw some of the tens of supporters away from this rally? Are the wingnuts even aware of what other wingnuts are planning?

Well, at least they believe that it would be wrong to go to the rally armed…so, I’ll give them a small brownie point for that. I clearly remember all the protests against the ACA a few years ago, when several of the protestors indeed, DID come armed…and no conservative who was made aware of this fact seemed a have a problem with it.

Something very like this, er, plan, is currently being attempted, with much more likelihood of success, in Thailand. The opposition, absurdly titled the “Democratic Party” (primarily representing the urban middle class), is trying to bring down the elected government (elected mainly by the votes of the rural poor) by occupying government offices and the streets of Bangkock. The Prime Minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, has called a fresh election for February, but the “Democratic Party” is blocking candidate registration, because they know they would lose, as they have the last several elections. They want an unelected “people’s council” to carry out “reforms” before an election. The opposition claims Yingluck Shinawatra is a proxy for her exiled brother, which may be true, but the fact is, she is the validly elected leader of the government. The most likely outcome is a military coup.

Basically the same strategy, but culminating in an explicit call for a military coup, succeeded last year in Egypt – if a return to military rule and a subsequent crackdown on all civil and political rights counts as success.

  • dingojack

Except, it seems, the Thai Military isn’t gonna go for it. (My bet is the King will intervene, as has happened before).

    Dingo

    ——–

Egypt and Thailand? Hell, why not include the US (the fall of Richard Nixon) and Australia (The sacking of the Whitlam Government) in that comparison? Egypt and Thailand are similar only in that mass protests took the government down – in all other respects it’s a false analogy (IMHO).

TO: Patriots (black, white, male, female, civilian, military, truckers, bikers, militias, veterans, old, young, every American that loves freedom and liberty)

The list of people to whom this is written is an odd grouping.

First, he opens with race, in the oh-so-outdated “black, white” sense. So I guess Asians, Pacific Islanders, and Native Americans aren’t invited then? Whenever I read or hear someone who uses only “black and white” to talk about race, I automatically count them as either out-of-date or a racist. In a time when the US is moving rapidly away from the “black and white” race discussion of the past into a future of multiple ethnicities, in which “Asian” is nowhere near sufficient enough to describe ethnic identities that stretch from Turkey to Tokyo, which carve “black” into – among other cleavages – new immigrants from Africa and those who share a history of slavery. The opening two – likely also meant as diametrical opposites – spotlights this guy’s out-of-touchness (at best) or his racial bigotry.

Second, he continues with “male, female.” Okay, in a world in which LGBT issues are a major political issue, listing only “male, female” is problematic if you don’t want to show yourself as being out-of-touch on the gender politics issue as well. Apparently, though, this message is not meant for LGBT (especially the “T”).

Third, he separates “civilian, military” from both “militia” and “veterans” with the group “truckers, bikers”. WTF? Aren’t veterans meant to be a part of the group containing “civilian, military”? And – if this guy really wants to be “consistent with the Constitution” – shouldn’t “militia” also be a part of the group “civilian, military”?

Finally, he uses what he hopes to be a catch-all of “every American that loves freedom and liberty”. Um, I look at that list of who his initial invitees are and I find myself fitting only the “male” and “civilian” groups. The only thing that his list has done is to show that what he hoped as a catch-all is actually alienating.

… plus it’s blatantly clear from the rest of his piece that he doesn’t actually know what the Constitution actually says and means.

  • Nick Gotts

    dingojack@45,

I don’t know where you get your information about the Thai military. From my link:

In his response to the media on 27 December 2013, Thailand’s army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha did not rule out the possibility of another military coup (11 military coups have been successful in Thai history)

The fall of Richard Nixon was entirely constitutional. That of Whitlam was constitutionally dubious, but involved no attempts to use mass demonstrations to paralyse government and reverse the result of elections. That’s the clear similarity between Egypt and Thailand, and the (pathetic) attempt to do the same in the USA. I don’t say such attempts could never be justified – they would be if the government was aiming to establish a dictatorship and had a non-negligible chance of success, for example. In my judgement, those conditions were not met in Egypt (since while Morsi may have aimed at dictatorship, he clearly lacked the power to achieve that aim, because the military opposed him), and are not met in Thailand or the USA.

  • dingojack

Nick – Evidently you haven’t been keeping up with the news. The day before yesterday the Head of the Thai Military made a statement along the lines of: ‘The military would not over throw the government. It’s not what they do anymore’ (It seems that the military isn’t very keen at having another coup. Perhaps they know that this is a AstroTurf revolution).

Conversely, the counter-revolution in Egypt, unlike that in Thailand, was not AstroTurfed, but a genuine uprising of the citizens generally.

I’m not sure what your sources are, but I don’t recall gangs of thugs terrorising and raping those they deemed to be ‘not Thai’ enough. Such attacks did occur from bands of muslim thugs in cahoots (or even paid by) the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

The Thai government may be incompetent and corrupt (or not), but they were hardly seeking to create a cosy little muslim theocracy for themselves by undermining the civil rights of those of other faiths (and secularists). Even the military’s attitudes are widely different.

Yep, it’s exactly the same – apart from being totally different.
