Dumbass Quote of the Day

From wingnut Allen West:

“This is my clear and succinct message to white Americans. How long will it be before “you people” realize you have elevated someone to the office of president who abjectly despises you — not to mention his henchman Holder. Combined they are the most vile and disgusting racists — not you.”

As a white American, I think Allen West is completely full of shit.

About Ed Brayton

After spending several years touring the country as a stand up comedian, Ed Brayton tired of explaining his jokes to small groups of dazed illiterates and turned to writing as the most common outlet for the voices in his head. He has appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show and the Thom Hartmann Show, and is almost certain that he is the only person ever to make fun of Chuck Norris on C-SPAN.

    Allen West:

That’s odd, this is the first president I’ve ever personally identified with in general. Mr. Obama considers issues from a very similar perspective and is culturally on the same page; and yet I’m white and have mostly lived in rural America. So I’m either very wrong or Mr. West is.

  • whirligig

He meant TRUE White Americans. People exactly like himself. One would have to be a fool or a saint not to abjectly despise them.

  • tbp1

There is much to criticize the President about legitimately, but almost all the criticism from the right is about truly bizarre stuff, apparently straight from their imaginations, for which there is no evidence whatsoever. They pretty much ignore the valid issues.

As a white American, I think Allen West is completely full of shit.

    1. As a pinkish tan* American, I voted for Obama twice and donated money to his last campaign. And compared to Bush, he is a far better president.

    2. Obama isn’t black!!! His mother was white, making him half white and he was raised by his white grandparents.

*I’m OK with being called white but it isn’t all that accurate, more like a pinkish tan color. And at this time of year, more pink than tan.

  • doublereed

    Wow, this is practically satire.

Everyone knows that the basic job of a Black Republican is basically to convince white racists that they aren’t racist because “hey look, that black guy is saying the same racist shit as me. He doesn’t think I’m racist. See I’m not racist.”

That’s literally what he’s doing here. He’s just reassuring racists that they aren’t racist. That’s his job. I couldn’t have parodied it better myself.

This is something I don’t get. Most African-Americans have a lot o white in their ancestry. A few are mostly white, yet they will self identity as black and our society will too. I know this is from our slave culture past and there are a lot of people who don’t want to let that go. It is very sad.

tbp1: the RWNJ aren’t pulling these bizarre criticisms from their imaginations

It’s true. White Americans are the real victims.

  • d cwilson

He meant TRUE White Americans. People exactly like himself.

Which is ironic, considering Allen West is black.

How long will it be before “you people” realize you have elevated someone to the office of president who abjectly despises you….

That brings up another interesting questions, Mr. West: how long will it be before you realize that you support a party that abjectly despises you?

  • d cwilson

I’ll never understand how wingnuts can get so obsessed with railing against Invisible Imaginary Obama rather than focusing on the real Obama’s shortcomings. What has Obama ever said or done that could make people think he “abjectly hates” white people?

d cwilson “What has Obama ever said or done that could make people think he ‘abjectly hates’ white people?”

As Sadlyno would say, “It’s always projection”.

  • D. C. Sessions

I’ll never understand how wingnuts can get so obsessed with railing against Invisible Imaginary Obama rather than focusing on the real Obama’s shortcomings.

The problem is, they agree with his shortcomings. That doesn’t leave them many choices.

There is much to criticize the President about legitimately, but almost all the criticism from the right is about truly bizarre stuff, apparently straight from their imaginations, for which there is no evidence whatsoever. They pretty much ignore the valid issues.

The dilemma for the Right is that on those issues they generally agree with him (more corporatism, use of state secrets and standing to prevent criticism of spying, etc.) Since their fundamental philosophy is “Obama is bad,” they can’t address any of those issues. They’re left with made-up stuff.

What’s really sad is that the rank-and-file are predisposed to believe the made-up stuff.

    someone…who abjectly despises you

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

    abjectly adverb

badly, utterly ⇒ “The plans have failed abjectly.” ⇒ “These ministers have failed abjectly in their responsibilities.”

profusely, wretchedly ⇒ “Franklin was embarrassed and apologized abjectly.”

I’m with Michael Heath. I’ve identified with President Obama more than any president in my lifetime.

People criticize that he is such an introvert, but I find that endearing. He seems to be very much like my hubby – an introverted intellectual who is a bit naive and just doesn’t understand why others can’t see what is right.

I also love the way that he treats his wife and their two beautiful daughters. This also reminds me of my own husband.

Unlike the conservatives, I tend to judge people by their actions, not by their skin color.

As a white American, I think Allen West is completely full of shit.

As a rich white guy, I am ashamed by the abyssal level of my caste’s syncophantic lackeys’ rhetoric.

  • Childermass

I think that Allen West thinks that Allen West is full of shit.

  • scienceavenger

What really cracks me up about the Right’s collective freak out over having a black president is that he isn’t exactly the most stereotypically culturally black guy you can find. You’d think Obama was all blinged out and rapping through his press conferences the way they carry on. He likes arugula for Whitey’s sake. In the 80’s we’d have called him an Oreo. Just wait until we get a black president who doesn’t have a white half, they’ll really lose their minds.
