Fischer: God Giving Bill Maher the Chance to Repent

On his show last week, Bill Maher declared that the God of the Bible was a “psychotic mass murderer.” He’s right, of course. I can’t imagine who anyone could read the Old Testament and conclude otherwise. Bryan Fischer, though, was quite unhappy and explained that God hasn’t struck Maher down yet (which would only prove his point) because he’s giving him a chance to repent for telling the truth.

And god will continue to give Maher a chance to repent for who knows how long until he gives up on poor Bill and kills him. Of something. Possibly “natural causes”. Some day. Mark my words.

One of the amazing things about god is that he acts just like random chance. It’s as if he’s not there or something.

    So @81 & # 84. dingojack : Powerful stuff there – I hadn’t seen either of those before. Thankyou.

PS. For some of the things I’ve said in the past when angry and tired and without as much thought as I should have put in – I am sorry. I was wrong and I am and have fucked up.

What roggg said. How can anyone not agree that their old testament god is the biggest serial killer of all time. Wipes out most of the planet, tells people to slaughter entire villages, gets pissed when people don’t slaughter everyone so he slaughters them…do these people actually read the Bible?

  • Alverant

Excuses excuses. Did God give those people he drowned in that Noah movie a chance to repent? Didn’t think so.

  • Mr Ed

Point of order: If God lets those who offend him live to repent and calls his faithful home to him isn’t it better to be on his bad side?

    God is the Ticktockman?

  • Childermass

So Bill Maher is a sinner in the hands of an angry psychopathic God?

  • Childermass

    “God is the Ticktockman?”

    Repent, Bill!” Said the Ticktockman?

    /Please don’t sue me Harlan.

  • dingojack

It’s nice to see Bill, having described his own life as a train-wreck, is demonstrating what one looks like and the expression he’ll use when he realises, at that moment, how he’s completely wasted his life ahatin’.

    (See still above)

Stevo – you’re wrong about as often as I am. One shouldn’t apologise for being an idiot, we all are, it’s part of being human. I hope that I, and all of us, can “,,,reach forward for what is to be hoped ” :)

I don’t know about random chance. It seems to me that he morphs into the ego need of each person who imagines him. It’s as if he were imaginary or something.

‘Did God give those people he drowned in that Noah movie a chance to repent? Didn’t think so.”

I’m working on another screenplay, tentatively titled, “Sleeping with the Creatorenemy”. You know how it goes. GOD comes back to his mansion after a long day of battling Satan, the omniwimp, and just starts smitin’ the shit outta his “flock”, when one of them manages to ask, “Why, Oh LORD, WHY?!”, he says, “You fuckin’ well KNOW why! If you and your fellow humans would anticipate my every unspoken request and command, I wouldn’t have to do this!”.

I think I’m gonna see if Russell Crowe wants to play GOD, this time.

“. . . because he’s giving him a chance to repent for telling the truth.”

That’s why Fischer is still alive — he’s never been guilty of telling the truth.

Murder is the killing of a human being by a sane person, with intent, malice aforethought and with no legal excuse or authority.

I will concede that the God of the Bible has no legal excuse or authority under US law. I will also concede that he is legally sane. He knows the difference between right and wrong and is capable of foreseeing the outcome of his actions. Indeed, by definition he understands them perfectly.

However, the God of the Bible wasn’t a person when the Old Testament deaths occurred and hasn’t been a person for more than 2000 years. During the time he allegedly was a person he was tried and executed for his crimes. While mass murder wasn’t among the charges, he still paid the ultimate price, fulfilling his debt to society. But I’m getting a bit far afield of the point I was trying to make, which is that, by virtue of his status as a non-person, God could not have committed murder.

    The Defense rests.

    @ 12,

Only Morgan Freeman can play Bible-god.* It’s in a union contract somewhere.

    * At least the version of the almighty when he currently is taking his meds and not angry at anyone or second guessing himself about the whole human race thing.

From what I’ve seen, god doesn’t work retail, only wholesale. Therefore, if god is angry at somebody, like Maher, he’ll show that anger by flinging a cat 5 tornado through Oklahoma or Kansas, or may be run a big ass hurricane up through the gulf coast. That way he can fuck with thousands of lives, not just one. Its then up to the real target, Maher, say, to feel responsible for the destruction and repent.

  • Trebuchet

I’d rather see Maher repent of his anti-vaxxism, germ theory denial, and support of PETA.

Love the swerve on the religiotards…to the vulnerable and weak they issue the standard…’god will strike you down dead!’ in other words you are fucked unless you give them money or repent right now right this second!

But to those in the public eye and not under their sway they can only issue a ” god could kill you but he is giving you time to repent and then he won’t kill you”…notice no time limit and no definitive statement.

Of course it all goes cocks up when someone turns around and defies….yet still lives on…sometimes for many years!

Basically it is a load of old codswollop and only works on the mentally challenged…so that is the founding and continuing principle of religion right there. it is used when the audience have not a clue.

Why is God waiting to strike Bryan down for committing fraud, theft and misrepresentation in His Name–he shows no sign of repentance

  • teawithbertrand

The fact that Fischer’s god wants to kill Maher and torture him forever for the crime of making fun of him kind of proves Maher’s point.
