Gay-Friendly Churches Just Like Nazi Germany!

Here’s yet another example of a phenomenon I’ve noticed for quite some time now. For wingnuts, everything reminds them of Nazi Germany except actual Nazis. Eric Metaxas and the even more unhinged Kevin Swanson agreed on Generations Radio that the existence of a few gay-friendly churches is just like what led to the rise of Hitler.

“I’m talking about the theological liberals in the mainstream church that is just getting off in a whole other direction where they are just failing to teach biblical orthodoxy, failing to teach the Bible as the word of God and yet they still think of themselves as the church,” he said. “We see that obviously happening in issues of sexuality, but how can you say that most mainline denominations in America today are profoundly Christian when they have given up the ghost on all of these fundamentals of the faith? You had the exact same thing happening in Germany. It’s just setting things up so that when evil comes, where do people turn?”

Swanson agreed that the “abortion holocaust” and the “significant rise of homosexuality, something that Nazi Germany was seeing in the 1920s and 1930s,” show that America is on its way to Nazism.

This is what happens when you get your history from David Barton and Scott Lively.

I think I see where he’s going. He sees the rise of the Nazi’s as a backlash against a more tolerant society under Weimar and expects people like him to do the same in America. Look out for the burning of congress.

For wingnuts, everything reminds them of Nazi Germany except actual Nazis.

Many of them seem to be working from a very limited set of references, in general: They have grossly distorted ideas of the American Revolution, the Russian Revolution, WW II and the Fall of the Roman Empire, and no idea at all about the whole rest of history.

I don’t agree with matty1. I think he is saying that society is becoming immoral and doing bad things. As society gets worse and the government starts to kill the people they don’t like, the populace will need to figure out whether that is correct moral behavior or not. Traditionally, the churches would be necessary to inform people that murder was wrong. But the churches have abandoned morality, so they will just go along with things and tell people to ignore the bible and that murder and genocide are OK

Phillip IV – so typical Americans then?*

    @3

are you serious that we need churches to tell people that murder is wrong?

  • had3

Brianpansky, the churches told Hitler that murder was wrong, and that’s why the holocaust didn’t happen. Amirite?

Well the SS did have some fantastic uniforms.

If you’re into the Goth thing.

Some churches have liberal interpretations of the bible? How terrible. We need the government to put a stop to this before the nation descends into Nazism. Perhaps if liberals were required to wear some sort of identifying mark or patch, then good Christian Americans would know they were untrustworthy on sight. If that doesn’t work we may need to segregate them from the rest of the population. We can relocate them to their own little communities and put up tall fences around them. Remember, God’s with us!

@3 I don’t agree with me either, that was an example of what we call sarcasm.

Abby normal: Remember, God’s with us!

As sly as this is, I doubt the general public would get what Abby Normal’s doing here or reference the quip at the end.

the “significant rise of homosexuality, something that Nazi Germany was seeing in the 1920s and 1930s,”

Lolwhut? Even if there were evidence that Teh Gay was on the rise in inter-war Germany, which I seriously doubt, what the fuck is this even supposed to mean? Were the gays the intellectual fore-bearers of the Nazis? Were the Nazis a backlash against the gays? Did Teh Gay magically make God angry and cause him to punish the Jews via Hitler? No matter what, it’s a ragingly stupid thing to say.

  • Trebuchet

If Hitler was alive today, he’d be comparing liberals, gays, and atheists to Nazis.

  • Artor

No worries Michael. As a member of the public, I don’t rank as high as General, but I definitely caught Abby’s message, right down to the last Gott mit uns.

It’s cognitive dissonance. They wish for it, but they are repelled by it. So they see it everywhere.

You’re probably thinking of the SD (Gestapo)…

I can’t recall which, but one of the snappy nazi uniforms was designed by Hugo Boss.
