Peroutka: Teaching Evolution is ‘Disloyalty to America’

Right Wing Watch found a video of Michael Peroutka, former presidential candidate of the Constitution Party and a confirmed Christian theocrat, saying that evolution is “dangerous” and “anti-American” that teaching evolution or an old age for the earth is “disloyalty to America.” This video really must be seen to be believed.

The irony of having this demented theocrat as the candidate for the “Constitution” Party is just staggering.

  • Granny Sue

He actually tries to be logical. Wow!

  • vmanis1

I got to the point where he said that the Declaration of Independence says that `there is a God of the Bible, he is not Allah’, before I got so nauseous I had to stop the video.

Mind you, the Declaration also says `don’t forget to pick up some milk, and a dozen onion bagels’ as well.

Have we really got to a stage where somebody can get away with simply lying about a very well-known document, and be laughed right out of the public square?

    Please don’t answer that.

  • vmanis1

oops…`and NOT be laughed right out of the public square’.

  • tsig

So much the worse for Americanism.

  • Artor

Ed, you missed an extra helping of irony. Apparently, Peroutka is a member of the League of the South as well, and he is complaining about “disloyalty to America.”

“I’m quoting the declaration here, I’m paraphrasing”

That’s one hell of a paraphrase. To paraphrase the complete works of Thomas Aquinas – you sir are an idiot.

  • The Peroutka brothers run something they call “Institute on the Constitution” which seems to be a sort of an indoctrination center for this kind of crap. For some reason the Baltimore suburb of Pasadena is a source of a whole bunch of this kind of nuttery including the state’s anti gay marriage organization. He’s Catholic, by the way, a Loyola College graduate.

I didn’t hear an Em Dash of Interruption; I heard a Comma of Clarification. I think it is fair to parse that phrase as though “paraphrasing” was a clarification of his meaning of “quoting”. So form here on out when Bryan Fischer “quotes” something, we can safely assume he’s paraphrasing.

    Derp. Michael Peroutka.

  • Pierce R. Butler

Well, of course it’s disloyal – Darwinism was invented by a foreigner!

And chemistry is too – a Russian created that “Periodic Table of the Elements”!

    Heliocentricism came from Poland!

    Etc, etcl

Btw, does Peroutka know that his backdrop is a simply marvelous magenta?

  • Alverant

Ever notice how these groups that try to sound patriotic never wind up being so?

  • gridlore

I sing “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” during the 7th Inning Stretch.

But yeah, I took an oath as a soldier to defend the Constitution, and this guy sure seems to be an enemy of that document. Besides, the Declaration of Independence is not the basis for our laws, but instead a Dear John letter to the British throne.

I like it. Make a very narrow definition of American, and insult every voter outside it. I’m sure it’ll work for 2014 theocrats just as well as it worked for Palin in 2008 and Romney in 2012.

    Re #11

So is Relativity, invented by a German/Swiss. So is Quantum Mechanics, invented by a Dane, a couple of Austrians, and a German.

I have it on good authority (well FoAW, so maybe not) that Silly String was patented by Americans Fish and Cox, so it’s OK to believe in Silly String.

  • Peroutka is not with the constitution party anymore. He is republican and currently running for the Anna Arundel County Republican Central Committee. He almost ran for State Attorney General. Fellow theocrat and instructor at Perouka’s Institute of the Constitution and former Constitution Party leader, David Whitney is running for office in Maryland as a Democrat. A good friend of theirs is Maryland State Delegate Don Dwyer, another IOTC veteran, and a rabid tea partier who is advocating that Republicans swap parties to drag the democrats to the right. Dwyer refers to this as the DINO movement. In 2012 Dwyer was driving a boat while intoxicated and got into an accident (injuring children), in Dwyer’s boat at the time was perenial GOP condidate John Moran, Moran just switched parties and is running for office as a democrat. Basically Peroutka and his pals are trying to subvert both parties in an attempt to get people to vote for them, in effect removing the loyal opposition.

Note to Mr. Peroutka, to paraphrase does not mean to rewrite something with a totally different meaning

To paraphrase that “paraphrase does mean to rewrite something with a totally different meaning”

  • “Btw, does Peroutka know that his backdrop is a simply marvelous magenta?”

Yep, “Tide comes in, tide goes out, you can’t explain that!” AND how do magentas work?.

Are the wingnuts holding a contest to see who can pack in the most falsehoods in a 2:30 min. clip?

  • peterh

After he declares that the Declaration of Independence sets forth the legal philosophy of the United States – and it does no such thing – he says all in one sentence, “I am quoting, I am paraphrasing [it.].” And he then proceeds to do no such thing. That he and a piece of paper bearing the words “Declaration of Independence” are both in the same room is as close as he manages to come. The stupid runs deep in this one!

But those are *bad* things. Do keep up.

dingojack @16 – Ha, good one. I believe the Pet Rock also goes into this category.
