Todd Starnes: Hitler, Hitler, Hitler!

Seriously, do wingnuts have any concept of Nazism? Do they have anything else in their head to compare the things they don’t like to other than Hitler? Todd Starnes made that comparison while discussing the Supreme Court’s ruling on legislative prayer.

“Always a good day when the anti-Christian folks get smacked down by the Supreme Court,” Starnes quipped.

The Fox News outrage specialist said he wasn’t “into the legalese” of the decision, but worried that the fact that the ruling was limited to only “short prayers” meant that there would be future court cases.

Of course he isn’t “into the legalese,” he’s too dumb to understand it. He’s a polemicist, not a thinker.

“Let’s say the atheists are successful in removing creator out of that sentence, alright?” Starnes said. “Who do we put in there? I mean, look, the Germans tried it with Hitler. It didn’t work out very well with them. Look at what happened in Italy [with Mussolini].”

He’s as ignorant of Adolf Hitler as he is of constitutional law. As Raw Story points out, here’s a prayer Hitler offered at a rally in 1942:

“Lord God, give us the strength that we may retain our liberty for our children and our children’s children, not only for ourselves but also for the other peoples of Europe, for this is a war which we all wage, this time, not for our German people alone, it is a war for all of Europe and with it, in the long run, for all of mankind.”

Replace “Europe” with the United States and “German people” with “American people” and Starnes would be cheering on that prayer.

"As someone who thoroughly rejects moral relativism I'm calling foul on the evangelicals here."

Hmm, I’m thinking now that maybe I ought to sign up to give the invocation at my local city council meeting, and give them Hitler’s prayer.

What could possibly go wrong for me? 😉

If I had withdrawn the German troops from the General Government this would not have bought about a pacification of Poland, but a hideous chaos. And the Church would not have been able to exercise its function in praise of the Lord, but the priests would have had their head chopped off …

But it’s okay when America does it. On account of all the Exceptionalism. And Freedom. Also, Apple Pie.

No way, I’m not one of THEM (egads but I’m a prehistoric geek).

Besides, I can’t find a yellow trash basket that fits.

Coming up to Mothers day it’s important to remember that the Germans had no mothers, unlike the Allies…

The Fox News outrage specialist … worried that the fact that the ruling was limited to only “short prayers” meant that there would be future court cases.

    Mighty predictive powers for sure.

The Court didn’t want to get into courts deciding what the limits of “nonsectarian” were, so instead of saying “Oh, fuck it. Just don’t,” they are getting into the question of which prayers are short enough and who is qualified to offer them, or who gets to choose who offers them, and how often, and …

The Court has already ruled that “for a limited time” is pretty much whatever the Legislative branch decides it is, so if we take “short” as being a period that is to a day what copyright is to the history of the United States, we end up with about 12 hours for prayer. Or perhaps (this being a Christian nation and all) copyright compared to the entirety of the Christian Era we’d have prayers of four hours.

Stands to reason; when they lose a case, they compare atheists to Nazis. When they win a case, they compare atheists to Nazis. I bet when Starnes’ toilet gets clogged, it’s because atheists are like Nazis.

They really don’t understand that Hitler hated all the same people, for the same reasons, that they do?

The Fox News outrage specialist said…

“Well, my outrage specialist is the World Net Daily, and when the World Net Daily speaks outrage, wingnuts listen.”

I like that phrase “outrage specialist.” It may be among the fastest-growing careers. I wonder why the BLS doesn’t have it on its list of occupations. It should be right up there with mental acrobat.
