Seriously, GOP?

The Republican Party is preparing to run against Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential race and they’ve unveiled their secret weapon: A man in a 6-foot squirrel costume. Why? Because “Another Clinton in the White House is NUTS.” Get it? Nuts! Squirrels like nuts!

The Republican National Committee released a new web video, “It’s Nuts,” starring the HRC Squirrel, who has been tailing Hillary Clinton and the Ready for Hillary bus as they travel to recent stops on her “book tour.” The squirrel made its first public appearance Friday at Hillary Clinton’s event at The George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium.

The HRC Squirrel is a political animal, or sciurus politicus, determined to let Americans know that another Clinton in the White House would be nuts. Known for its keen memory, the squirrel recognizes the dangers of a Hillary Clinton presidency and will continue to dig up her record, no matter how hard the liberal media tries to bury it.

“What’s the difference between an Obama presidency and a Clinton presidency? NUTTIN,” tweeted @HRCSquirrel. Eager to expose just how out of touch Hillary Clinton has become, the squirrel noted, “Neither of us has driven since 1996, but I’m a squirrel. What’s Hillary Clinton’s excuse?”

“In recent days, Hillary Clinton has revealed just how out of touch she is and that she doesn’t seem ready for prime time,” said RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. “As we continue to expose her failed record and bad choices, Democrats will start to worry whether it was wrong to put all their acorns in one basket for 2016.”

So apparently the GOP has now hired a 9-year old to plot political strategy.

  • So the GOP’ve finally admitted that they are a load of rodents?

  • Taz

RNC: “Let’s associate Hillary with a cute, lovable mascot. That’ll show her!”

  • cswella

Hey, they’ve finally found a way to effectively communicate to their base voters.

  • lldayo

So the GOP’s plans to revitalize our economy and trim the deficit is to…hire a mascot?

  • Mr Ed

Given the choice between showcasing the field of possible candidates and a lunatic squirrel I think they made the intelligent choice.

  • Artor

I don’t think I could be dragged to vote for Hillary by a team of draft horses, but my irony meter broke when Rancid Pubis said, “As we continue to expose her failed record and bad choices…” LOL!

  • dingojack

Apparently the weasel costume was already hired out to a Mexican wrester called ‘La comadreja’.

The GOP – ’cause in your guts you know they’re nuts!

I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: ‘O Lord make my enemies ridiculous.’ And God granted it.

As soon as I saw the headline I knew what this story would be…

  • chrisclc

Given that Jeb Bush may be a candidate in 2016 they may be exhibiting a bit of projection here.

  • To be fair, the squirrel does look more presidential than Rick Perry or Ted Cruz.

  • dingojack

Who’s gonna wear the Bullwinkle costume?

  • Squirrel!!!

Given the choice between showcasing the field of possible candidates and a lunatic squirrel I think they made the intelligent choice.

    Ha. Too true.

  • lldayo

Who’s gonna wear the Bullwinkle costume?

I believe that’s reserved for the vice presidential candidate so we won’t know for a while.

  • davidworthington

This is old strategy. They had an intern in a giant flip-flop following John Kerry around in 2004. I know because one of my former students was inside the costume. Sigh.

I’m waiting for the big reveal. I’m thinking it will be Eric Cantor under that suit, just waiting for the right moment to whip it off and yell, “I’m back Bitches!”

  • dingojack

Nope it’s not the (bad) Spainish – well I’m buggered if I know why my earlier comment (after Artor #6) is in being held in moderation then.

  • voidhawk

I remember when the Santos campaign did something like this in The West Wing with a guy in a chicken suit to accuse the opponent of being too ‘chicken’ to debate him. Santos was roundly annoyed that someone would stoop so low and associate him with something so ridiculous.

So apparently the GOP has now hired a 9-year old to plot political strategy.

Which means that their new head-spin-doctor is at the very least three times more competent than the previous one

  • @ dingojack

Who’s gonna wear the Bullwinkle costume?

“Hey Rocky, watch me pull a Bengazhi out of my hat!”

    “Again? That trick never works.”

    “This time for sure!”

“No doubt about it, I’ve gotta get me another hat.”

“So apparently the GOP has now hired a 9-year old to plot political strategy.”

Well at least they’ve raised the bar, intellectually speaking.

  • D. C. Sessions

I’m thinking that the last thing they should want is to get the electorate comparing another Clinton Presidency to another Bush Presidency.

  • Pierce R. Butler

We’ve had another Clinton in the White House for five and a half years, and yes, it’s been nuts.

    Not in a good way…

  • busterggi

Pandering to the furry vote, eh?

  • Because the 1990s were so awful…

    Re D. C. Sessions @ #23

Well lets see, the second Bush presidency plunged the country into massive deficits, the worst depression since the 1930s, and a futile war in the Middle East. The first Clinton presidency not only balanced the budget but bequeathed a 150 billion dollar surplus to his successor which he proceeded to piss away with massive tax cuts to the 1%. In addition, unemployment got down to less then 4% during the first Clinton and presidency and wars with boots on the ground were avoided. Somehow, I don’t think the Rethuglicans can make much of a case on the comparison.

This is the party that brought us Clint Eastwood vs. an empty chair. They simply lack the intellectual depth to understand how satire actually works.

I suppose it could be an independent decision to try and avoid having any spokesperson who might later say something stupid, by avoiding having a spokesperson who says anything. However, I wonder if there’s any connection to the team behind the Creepy Uncle Sam health care ads.

  • caseloweraz

Obviously with this strategy the GOP is harking back to GW Bush and “going nucular.”

The word “nucular” is an adjective deriving from the noun “nucule” which Merriam-Webster defines as a nutlet — or, in common terms, a little nut.

  • Mobius

OK…that really is just butt stoopid.

  • jnorris

I agree with bushrat at #17, this is Eric Cantor’s new job.

  • Cal

It apparently isn’t even a new idea, Rachel Maddow reported that the same costume was being used back in 2008 to promote their “Acorn” conspiracies… It seems even their bad ideas are old these days.

  • Michael Heath

The one thing I’m surprised about regarding the right’s reaction to Hillary Clinton emerging as a viable ’16 presidential candidate, is how easy it is for their authoritarian leaders to get the sheep to switch their venom from others to Ms. Clinton.

Yes Hillary Clinton was a primary conservative target in the 1990s, this uppity woman was a hated figure just like Barack Obama’s being an uppity black made them hate him so in 2008 and afterward. But the energy at hating Ms. Clinton was predominately dormant during her years as a Senator and never even woke up much when she appeared to be the default Democratic nominee early in the 2008 presidential primary season or was Secretary of State.

But recently; it’s just – wow. See the 1-star reader reviews in Amazon for Ms. Clinton as a good illustration. The same level of delusion and hatred it takes to believe Barack Obama isn’t a Christian nor born in the U.S. is now being projected once again on Hillary Clinton.

Conservative Christians seem to me to be the easiest marks ever created.

  • D. C. Sessions

Mr. Heath, the key is to understand that no Democrat is qualified to be President of the United States. Not one. Ronald Reagan Himself, should he be reincarnated or brought forward by time machine or whatever from his days as a registered Democrat, would be not only unqualified but by definition the greatest threat to the Nation since the War of Independence.

The only question is just what forms their existentially threatening lack of qualifications take. People around here lack respect for the Party, but it’s quite good at operational research and planning and you can bet that they’re hard at work right now preparing the dossiers to expose all of the potential threats for 2016. They slipped in 2008 by preparing for Clinton and being surprised by Obama: someone nobody took seriously. I mean, really? A n****r?

They won’t repeat that mistake. Besides, they have all that material on Clinton already prepared. Might as well use it.
