Hice is Outraged the IRS is Doing What He Wanted Them to Do

Jody Hice, the preacher turned politician who is almost certain to be in Congress from the state of Georgia, is joining many of his fellow wingnut preachers in being shocked and outraged that the IRS would do exactly what they demanded they do — crack down on preachers violating the IRS code by endorsing candidates from the pulpit.

For the last six years, the ADF and dozens of preachers around the country have been trying to get the IRS to enforce that rule so they would have standing to mount a legal challenge to its constitutionality. And for six years, the IRS has done absolutely nothing, letting them flout the law at will. But now due to the settlement of a lawsuit filed by the Freedom From Religion Foundation, the IRS might possibly think about considering maybe enforcing it. And that has preachers like Hice who dared them to do so screaming bloody murder about it. Here he is throwing a fit about it on his radio show.

About Ed Brayton

After spending several years touring the country as a stand up comedian, Ed Brayton tired of explaining his jokes to small groups of dazed illiterates and turned to writing as the most common outlet for the voices in his head. He has appeared on the Rachel Maddow Show and the Thom Hartmann Show, and is almost certain that he is the only person ever to make fun of Chuck Norris on C-SPAN.

America is like a comedy show, but better…

Only if you have the luxury of watching it from the outside.

    to quote George Carlin:

“When you’re born you get a ticket to the freak show. When you’re born in America, you get a front row seat.”

I’m going to guess he only wanted them to crack down on preachers who support candidates he doesn’t like?

From the inside, it’s more like Stephen King’s It with killer clowns everywhere.

This has bumper sticker written all over it.

One thing I have not yet heard in the news is any cracking down. Has anyone heard of any investigations underway? This move was made a month ago or so, and I’d think any action would make some news, but all I’ve heard is kudos, praising something that we haven’t actually seen happening, or wails of despair from the wingnuts who have been creaming their pants for the opportunity to be “persecuted.” Nothing to indicate anything has actually been done. Who is the new person in charge?

  • jnorris

Artor (at #7) Nothing has been done yet because Pres Obama is too busy taking everybody’s guns.

  • newfie

@#7 I believe they will, right after they start jailing bankers.. and Texas executes its first corporation.
