Reagan Has Incredibly Dumb Idea on Ebola

Michael Reagan, the dullest of St. Ronald the Magnificent’s children, went on a Newsmax TV show and said some of the dumbest things yet said about the Ebola problem. Amid all of the inane things the right has said about it, these actually stick out as being particularly stupid:

“Why do we have a political appointment here? Why not put a doctor?” Reagan asked John Bachman and Olga Villaverde on “America’s Forum” on Newsmax TV Friday. “If you’re going to have an Ebola czar, why not put somebody in charge that really understands what is going on with Ebola?”

“What happened with the surgeon general of the United States of America? Where is the surgeon general at this point? Do we have one? I don’t know because I haven’t heard anything from the surgeon general, which is the top doctor in the United States of America,” he said.

Is this a political pundit who pays no attention to actual politics, or is he just shamelessly dishonest? No, we don’t have a surgeon general. You know why? Because the Republicans blocked Obama’s nominee, not because he’s unqualified but because the NRA threw a temper tantrum over a comment he made about guns being a public health problem. But he’s just getting started. Guess who he thinks should be the Ebola czar?

“Why not put Dr. [Mehmet] Oz in charge of it? Why not put somebody in charge who’s a doctor? Somebody who works in that field and really understands it? Somebody who can talk to the people at the CDC, who can talk to the nurses at the hospitals, who can talk with some kind of knowledge of what we’re facing instead of somebody who is just another political appointment?” he asked.

“I don’t feel better because Ron Klain is going to be the Ebola Czar,” he added. “I’d feel better if it was Dr. Oz.”

Dr. Oz is a fraud, a snake oil salesman pushing miracle diet pills and homeopathic bullshit. If you’d feel better having him in charge, you’re a moron.

I would suggest “Dr” Oz and USAlienstani’s homeopathetics be sent to Wastern Africa to provide hands-on care and treatment, except that would not help the people they would be “treating”.

Um … Oz is Turkish-American cardiothoracic surgeon. So we’re going to put someone who (you know, Like Obama) has his sympathies with the Muslims who are going to be carrying Ebola from Turkey (or, you know, one of them furrin places) into America to kill millions of us and who has no experience in infectious diseases. Why does Michael Reagan hate America and want to support Obama?

Doctor Oz may be a surgeon by training but he’s an entertainer by trade. Oz as ebola czar would work out as well as having a movie actor as president.

As for Michael Reagan, stupid is as stupid does.

In the context of the US, Ebola is a political problem, not a health problem. Ebola does not represent any kind of serious public health threat in the US, the sole reason that it needs addressing at all is that somehow the right has settled on the idea that Obama is personally responsible for its existence. Given that, a political appointee makes a lot more sense than a doctor. Though actually, it does seem lot a pretty solid role for a professional con artist, so maybe Reagan’s on to something…

    Hey, how about Ben Carson?

  • Kevin Kehres

What the country needs to deal with Ebola is reinstatement of all of the cuts to the CDC and NIH rammed through by the Tea Party wingnuts. Don’t need a doctor for that. Need a politician.

  • blf

    Need a politicianvertebrate.

Fixed. One who knows how to deal with Politicianoid slimemouldious is an advantage.

Ebola is an agent of ISIS. Or Al Qaeda.

There. I’ve just guaranteed unlimited funding to fight it worldwide.

I’m am getting very tired of this blind ebola hysteria sweeping across the nation. It seems as if a good deal of people think it’s going to spread and kill everyone here. I attribute this to the politicalization of science and the complete lack of critical thinking skills in the US. This is one of the reasons I switched majors from wanting to be a nurse to wanting to be a science teacher. I figure instead of curing idiots of their diseases I can work to cure the disease of idiocy. Even if it’s just a dozen or so in my life it will be fulfilling.

The Reagans need to fade away into obscurity. Or, they should but won’t because fucking Ronny was such a failure of a human being and has affected generations not even yet in existence. If only his relatives would have the decency to fuck off, we don’t need constant reminding of his bullshit.

I don’t know why people are so afraid of Ebola. ISIS is going to kill us first.

Oddly enough according to reports, Obama really did need some sort of overall oversight.

    1. He assumed that the WHO, CDC, and NIH were on top of things and this was just outbreak 31 of Ebola.

Obama is focused right now on ISIS and other major problems. The world is always in crisis but this time there are a bunch everywhere.

    2. It turned out though that the WHO, CDC, and NIH were dropping balls right and left. Not to mention the Ebola case factory known as Texas Presbyterian Hospital.

A lot of this is traceable to budget cuts. The WHO’s budget is a small fraction of what they need. Whenever there is a world health emergency, they have to run around begging money by subscription. This of course, takes time. You try to panhandle a billion bucks and see how it works.

The NIH and CDC same thing. The CDC was focused on Africa without much success.

We really have to stop it in West Africa or we end up with a huge worldwide problem and it may never completely stop. Suppose Ebola travels to Asia and South America. We don’t know what the reservoirs are but many mammals can be carriers, fruit bats, primates, and dogs are known.

If Ebola establishes reservoirs in other places, we end up with chronic outbreaks. This in fact happened with…Bubonic plague, the Black Death. It was introduced to the USA via an epidemic in the early 20th century. Escaped from humans to rodents. And is still around. Prairie dogs were almost wiped out by it and still act as carriers.

That’s so mean. Personally I think Michael Reagan should get all his medical advice from Dr. Oz.

Now that’s funny from an illogical perspective. However, I’m guessing that wasn’t intentional.

I should also point out that we do in fact have an acting Surgeon General, namely one Rear Admiral Boris Lushniak, MD. He’s no slouch, either, having put in 16 years with the CDC, plus he served as Chief Medical Officer for the FDA’s Office of Counter-terrorism policy.

People forget that just below the level of political appointees, we often have very highly experienced and qualified career public servants.

“Is this a political pundit who pays no attention to actual politics, or is he just shamelessly dishonest?”

Why is there an or in this sentence?

  • Nick Gotts

    Rear Admiral Boris Lushniak

Ha! Has to be a Commie with a name like that! I bet he’s in league with Barack HUSSEIN Obama to infect all true Americans with ebola!
