Staver Steps Down as Dean of Liberty U. Law School

Mat Staver, the dumbest lawyer in America not named Larry Klayman, is stepping down as dean of the Liberty University School of Law, presumably so he can continue his utter incompetence in other places. No word on whether he is also leaving Liberty Counsel, which is affiliated with the law school but is a separate organization.

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell announced the resignation of Liberty University School of Law Dean Mathew Staver on Monday during the university’s All-Faculty Meeting, honoring him for his more than eight years of service.

Falwell said it was by Staver’s leading that the law school was established in 2004, calling it a “big undertaking and bold commitment” for the university to make after struggling financially for many years.

“Mat was the one who pushed hard and convinced us it was the right thing to do,” Falwell said.

He congratulated Staver for steering the law school through its first ABA accreditation approval process (no other university has obtained ABA provisional status in a shorter period of time) and for helping the university select a founding dean before Staver himself took on the position in 2006.

“We officially thank you for all you’ve done to make Liberty University School of Law successful,” Falwell told Staver.

Now if there is a god and he truly loves me, Staver will be forming a new law form with Larry Klayman.

You’ve left off Orly Taitz as a member of the firm.

Ed, I’m wondering if you have the phrase

Mat Staver, the dumbest lawyer in America not named Larry Klayman,

sitting in a text file on your desktop for a quick copy and paste since you seem to use it almost daily. Inquiring minds want to know!

  • Modusoperandi

Do you have a chip on your shoulder? Are you a public official with taxpayer money you want to get rid of? Are you a moron? Here at Staver, Klayman & Taitz, we’ll fight for you!

Well, Virgina did legalize SSM in July. Obviously his job is one of the earliest victims of this scourge…either that, or he’s now free to pursue other interests…

  • Chiroptera

Is Staver a creationist? I’m assuming that makes him qualified to head Liberty U’s Science Dept.

    lldayo, #2:

I’m assuming that he has it set up in auto-complete. It’s funnier that way.

@5: In order to work for Liberty U, you have to indeed sign their doctrinal statement that you are a creationist … among other things.

The universe was created in six historical days and is continuously sustained by God; thus it both reflects His glory and reveals His truth. Human beings were directly created, not evolved, in the very image of God. As reasoning moral agents, they are responsible under God for understanding and governing themselves and the world.

Never fear! Matt Barber will still be there to educate the next generation of illiterate dunderheads.

Let’s also not forget that, while serving as Dean of a law school, even one as dubious as Liberty, Staver was implicated in the kidnapping of Isabella Miller-Jenkins, the daughter of two women who had a Civil Union in VT before Isabella’s bio mom, Lisa Miller, turned “ex-gay” and left her wife Janet Jenkins. After demanding child support from Jenkins, Miller then refused to recognize Jenkins’ parental rights to the point that Courts awarded Jenkins full custody. Miller then fled the country with the assistance of one of Staver’s employees at Liberty and the employees’ father. Staver has been named in a RICO lawsuit by Jenkins, and oversaw the law school as it taught that the proper course of action for a “Christian” like Miller was to disobey the Courts.

Liberty University … where its seal is, in fact, a burning book and its motto is “Knowledge Aflame.”

Sometimes you just can’t make this stuff up.

A little respect here, people. It’s a near certainty that Liberty University will be the alma mater of President Cruz’ Attorney General. Not to mention his first pick for the Supreme Court.

Jerry Falwell!!!! Did we forget to include the stake through the heart when we buried that old grifter?

    Oh.. son. Nevermind.

  • Jared James

My money’s on Patrick Henry, but Presidente-for-Life Cruz may need more than one AG.

    @9, cptdoom:

Staver has been named in a RICO lawsuit by Jenkins

Staver was mentioned in it, but not personally named as a defendant; additionally, last I head the suit was largely dismissed. While one the court allowed for a refiling in one 42 USC § 1985 count, on the one hand Staver was not originally named in it (although I don’t know enough about law to preclude whether he might be added on refiling — I don’t think it’s been refiled), and on the other that’s “conspiracy against civil rights” rather than RICO.

Even the stupidest lawyer in the country could probably manage to file a libel suit if you put out materially incorrect information which can be construed as damaging to his reputation. In fact, the stupidest lawyer in the country would seem more likely to do so, simply to protect what few shreds of reputation he or she might retain while being the stupidest lawyer in the country.
