More Godwinning From Jody Hice

Right Wing Watch has been digging through the archives of Jody Hice’s radio show to see what the presumptive Georgia congressman has been saying (though he has now removed the archives) and they have caught him several times comparing Obama to Hitler. In a 2011 program he interviewed Kitty Werthmann, an elderly Austrian who has been screaming “Hitler” in response to everything for decades.

Werthmann, who was a child in Austria when it was annexed by Hitler’s Germany, spent the program going through what she saw as the similarities between that regime and America today, which Hice was eager to agree with.

“The parallels as you’re talking are just incredible with what we are seeing in America,” he said, adding that “like a politician here in America,” Hitler “made all these wonderful promises” before transforming into the “monster you never saw coming.”

“And so, you’ve got the nationalized education, nationalized banking, nationalized press that you alluded to, the nationalized medical care,” Hice said later in the program. “It sounds like you were describing America. And the last thing that you mentioned was the gun control. It sounds like you were describing to us tomorrow’s newspaper here in America. Every one of these issues we’re facing right now.”

“That’s right, that’s why I’m so fearful, it’s going so fast,” Werthmann replied, before warning that Obama’s appointment of “czars” signals the end of democracy.

Except, of course, we don’t have nationalized banking, a nationalized press or nationalized health care. All lies. But when you’re trying to make a Hitler comparison, it’s not like reality is going to be on your side.

Probably no more than ten million Americans would agree with them – twenty million tops!

We don’t have nationalized education either. And no, Common Core is not that.

Of course. Obama can’t do anything right.

We don’t seem to have too awfully much gun control either, not when there are Glock commercials on prime time TV. We don’t see a lot of self control exhibited by quite a few gun owners either.

And of course, no other president has ever appointed any “czars.”

    But other than that, Hitler!

Has anyone in the world actually had the title Czar since Nicholas II?

Adbusters published a piece by Werthmann back in 2010. I doubt Hice would be a big fan of that magazine.

matty1 #7: Yes, actually. The Bulgarians used the title Czar for their rulers until 1946. The last czar, Simeon II, was elected prime minister 55 years later in 2001.

Czar is the Slavic form of Caesar, just like Kaiser is the Germanic form of Caesar.

And, except for Jews, Hitler *relaxed* gun control, just like today’s Repuglicans.

Actually, Hitler didn’t nationalise the banks. On the contrary, he sold off the controlling stake the state had acquired in several banks in the pre-Nazi period (see p.6 of the linked article). The banks were subject to state regulation, but the degree of interference is debated, and varied between banks. Ideologically, Hitler regarded economics as subordinate to politics: privatization (of banks and also government stakes in railways, shipping and steel, and of municipally owned utilities) served to raise funds, and attract the support of those who did well out of process – rather as in post-Soviet Russia. However, as in the latter case, capitalists who attempted to thwart the regime were swiftly brought into line.

Kitty Werthman, being an Eagle Forum member, has been warning about the coming Nazi takeover of America for decades. This was long part of the right-wing fringe’s rhetoric. But since Obama was elected, this kind of deranged fear mongering has become increasingly mainstreamed, to the point that the Bircher and Survivalist groups have become almost completely integrated into the modern American Right. Today, the only way to stay on the right-wing fringe is to be a card-carrying member of Stormfront.

    …a nationalized press…

Considering how many journalists are in bed with the government, I sometimes wonder…

Ahhh, the Nazi comparison, smells like napalm in the morning.
