Copeland: God Told Me Why He Allowed Obama to Win

TV evangelist con man Kenneth Copeland talks to God. A lot. God tells him things, like why he allowed President Obama to be elected and reelected. No, not because he doesn’t exist, which is the obvious and accurate answer, but because he wanted to turn Americans against “progressive socialism.”

On a program scheduled to air tomorrow, Copeland told Barton that, prior to the last presidential election, God had told him that he would “like the way this election turns out,” which caused a lot of confusion for Copeland given that President Obama was re-elected. Copeland said that he recently asked God what He meant by this and learned that it was all part of God’s plan to sour America on “progressive socialism.”

“At the time of this last presidential election, very, very few people in this country had any idea what progressive socialism was,” Copeland said, asserting that God told him that He allowed Obama to be re-elected because “without a proper diagnosis, it’s very difficult to treat and receive healing from a sickness or disease.”

The Obama administration’s “agenda to push progressive socialism with everything they got,” Copeland said, has now allowed America to “get a diagnosis of what progressive socialism is and how it doesn’t work … and now we know why we don’t want it.”

The holdings of the wealthiest Americans has skyrocketed since Obama took office and so has the stock market. Obama must be the worst socialist ever.

… like why he allowed President Obama to be elected and reelected.

Maybe God felt that we needed a break from bad Republican Presidents?

  • cptdoom

“Progressive socialism”? You mean like Medicare and Social Security? Two programs with which the 77-year-old Copeland must be at least somewhat familiar.

  • rationalinks

Wait, there is progressive socialism in the U.S. right now? I want some!

“At the time of this last presidential election, very, very few people in this country had any idea what progressive socialism was,”

The ACA was passed in 2010, two years before the last election. With the right screaming about socialism the whole time the legislation was being discussed. SCOTUS’ decision to uphold (most of) it was in June 2012, also before the last election – and again, with much discussion by both left and right both before and after the decision.

Copeland must have the memory of a goldfish.

Wouldn’t it have been nice if Obama were a progressive socialist? That’s what I’d been hoping for when I voted for him first time around. When he came out as a right-leaning centrist, I was pissed. We need more of those in office like we need fast-tracked tar sand pipelines and extrajudicial drone bombings of citizens.

Same here, Artor. If ONLY Obama were a progressive socialist. And if only this nation weren’t so heavily influenced by ignorance.

Artor: I share your sense of betrayal. However, even a right-leaning centrist, especially when he’s intelligent and understands the force of rational argument, is miles better than a far-right fundamentalist / climate-change-denier / Ayn Rand adherent / money-market exploiter and/or Dr. Strangelove clone, which seem to be what’s offered by the other side. They had one decent candidate last time, Jon Huntsman, and he never had a chance.

Perhaps a right-leaning centrist is the best that electable in the current political climate.

Wouldn’t Jesus (if the stories about him were true) actually BE a “progressive socialist”?

So the kids’ father is telling this dipstick things about his kid, even though they are one????

  • John Pieret

it was all part of God’s plan to sour America on “progressive socialism”

So when is God gonna install a “progressive socialist” as president to complete his plan?

  • Mr Ed

So God caused something in human affairs to happen, so much for free will. On the plus side I’m going to be an instrument of god and run all the red lights tonight.

God wants Americas to be regressive and antisocial.

  • dingojack

So god can *poof* all those people into voting for Obama (twice!), but he can’t just *poof* everyone into disliking ‘progressive socialism’*? For a supposedly omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent being, he really didn’t think it through did he? Even a Bond villain or Wylie E Coyote can plan better than that.

Perhaps they’re who you should be really worshipping Kenny-boy.

And what did Tyler say was the first rule of Fight Club?

  • Michael Heath

[Kenneth] Copeland said, asserting that God told him that He allowed Obama to be re-elected . . .

At least Mr. Copeland concedes the president was duly elected. Most of his ilk claim President Obama’s an usurper.

Wouldn’t Jesus (if the stories about him were true) actually BE a “progressive socialist”?

    More of a communist actually.

  • Kevin Kehres

Well…Jesus advocated for a theocratic kingdom where there would be perpetual poverty…doesn’t sound socialist to me.

  • busterggi

If all Christains would sell their goods and give the proceeds to the poor (as some guy supposedly said ~2000 years ago) there would be no need for progressive socialism

  • Pierce R. Butler

Obama must be the worst socialist ever.

Isn’t he, like, the worst anything ever?
