Local Christian Radio Host Gets 25-50 Years for Raping Children

One of the big stories around here these days is of a Christian radio host named John Balyo, who pleaded guilty to raping an 11-year old boy and has been sentenced to a minimum of 25 years in prison, possibly as much as 50 years. But he says he’s sorry:

A former Grand Rapids Christian radio host was sentenced to at least 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to raping an 11-year-old Battle Creek boy.

“I just want to take this opportunity to say I am feeling very deep and constant remorse for my actions,” said John Balyo, 35. “And I want the family to know I am very sorry and wish I could do something to correct what has been done.”

Balyo pleaded guilty in September to first-degree criminal sexual in a May 17 assault in a Beckley Road motel room.

Calhoun County Circuit Court Judge Conrad Sindt sentenced him Monday to the mandatory minimum of 25 years in prison and a maximum of 50 years.

The guy who helped get the kids for him also pleaded guilty:

When he entered his plea, Balyo told the judge he met the 11-year-old boy and the child performed oral sex on Balyo. Balyo said another man was in the room at the time, and investigators have alleged that Ronald L. Moser of Battle Creek provided children for sexual acts with Balyo.

Moser also has pleaded guilty in federal court to possession of child pornography and sexual exploitation of a child and faces up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced Nov. 14.

If only they’d been Catholic, they might have gotten away with it.

    I blame Obama.

Some news sites are saying he had a secret stash containing handcuffs, rope, duct tape, zip ties, newspaper cuttings about missing children, and obituaries of children. I’d be asking him to account for every movement he’s ever made since he was fifteen.

#2 grumyoldfart – if those news reports are true, then you’re right. I hope the investigation into his activities isn’t over, and that the cases of those missing or deceased children are being looked at again, in light of that.

    Larry:

    I blame Obama.

And George Soros’ time machine that enabled him to go back 35 years and corrupt this otherwise godly man with the notion of same-sex marriage.

If the Michigan fundie beat is anything like here in North Carolina, this child rapist’s crime could quickly be turned into a story of redemption for the rapist, with flock demanding to know why the boy not only seduced the poor Christian man but also why the little slut won’t forgive him. My former partner was the son of an abusive preacher, and to this day, people will accost him and demand to know why he hasn’t accepted his part of the blame for what happened and forgiven his father already. After all, Daddy is soooo sorry (despite showing no indications of such, except for blathering in church when tithes are on the line). But considering this asshole was convinced, I’m hopeful. Most importantly, I really hope the child receives the support he needs to to be able to recover from this atrocity and lead a happy life.

When I see this sort of stuff, the first thing that runs through my mind is “How the fuck! do they even get a strange child to a motel room?! Where the FUCK are his parents?!”

Then I remember that a lot of people don’t really give a shit about what their kids do,

And then I’m both sad and furious.
