Pat Buchanan Joins the Chorus of Lies

Pat Buchanan, an outspoken opponent of all non-white European immigration to the United States, is of course livid about President Obama letting more dark-skinned people stay in the country. And he’s joined the right-wing chorus of bald-faced lies about it.

Thus does our constitutional law professor-president “faithfully execute” the laws of the United States he has twice swore to uphold?

Our rogue president has crossed an historic line, and so has the republic. Future presidents will cite the “Obama precedent” when they declare they will henceforth not enforce this or that law, because of a prior commitment to some noisy constituency.

We have just taken a monumental step away from republicanism toward Caesarism. For this is rule by diktat, the rejection of which sparked the American Revolution.

The political, psychological and moral effects of Obama’s action will be dramatic. Sheriffs, border patrol and immigration authorities, who have put their lives on the line to secure our broken borders, have been made to look like fools. Resentment and cynicism over Obama’s action will be deeply corrosive to all law enforcement.

There’s that lie that this is somehow unprecedented or unusual. Ronald Reagan not only signed into law a bill that gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented people who had been in the country since before 1982, he then unilaterally extended that amnesty to include spouses and children of those who had previously been granted a deferment — almost exactly what Obama just did. And Buchanan knows that. How do I know he knows that? Because he was the fucking White House Communications Director at the time. He’s just lying and he’s doing it to provide an argument for his long-standing racist hatred of non-white immigrants.

He is no longer even pretending:

Today, in 2014, after an influx of perhaps 50 million in 50 years, legal and illegal, no longer from Northwest Europe, or Europe at all, but Latin America, Africa, Asia, the Middle East, of every race, color, creed, culture and language, we seem less a nation than some mammoth Mall of America.

I suppose you of Italian, Greek and Spanish heritage should be grateful that you are now “honorary True Americans™” along with those of English, French and German stock. Oh, wait a minute … I’m mostly of Irish heritage … does that count Pat?

But Obama did make all the sheriffs, border patrol and immigration authorities look like fools. Now they can’t go after all the moms and kids, leaving only the dastardly criminal element for them to hunt down, putting those same sheriffs, border patrol and immigration authorities in very real danger. Thanks Obama!

What next, Obama’s gonna Executive Order his DEA staff to lower the priority of the marihuana? Or has he already done that?

Wake up, America! By taking the easy criminals off the table, “our” “president” is forcing Law Enforcement to go after the dangerous criminals, putting our fighting men and women and men of Law Enforcement in dangerous danger!

Remember this day, in 2016, and vote for the Cruz/Gohmert ticket, who will roll back these unconsitutional Executive Orders with perfectly constitutional Executive Orders of their own, bumping illegal children and their illegal parents up to the high priority they should be!

I don’t read the right wing sites, so I might well have missed it, but has anyone on the right actually tried to put forward an honest legal argument that Obama didn’t have the authority for the orders?

Again, as with so many of the objections, this one seems to have very little to do with what they actually were. How has it made border patrols and immigration authorities look like fools? By channeling more money to border security and prioritizing people who are going to come over in future, or who are recent arrivals?

If someone asked them “Should deportation be on a first come first served basis, and we should just deport the first few hundred thousand people we find each year until we run out of money” would any of them think that was a good idea?

I wonder how they can lie so. The result of practice, no doubt.

And they get away with these lies and exaggerations because the networks decided not to broadcast the President’s speech, thus ensuring that everyday citizens who tuned in to watch their usual reality shows and those who can’t afford cable didn’t get to hear it for themselves.
