Bachmann’s Self-Aggrandizing Exit from Office

Michele Bachmann is leaving Congress and the Worldnetdaily has an “exclusive” (as always, this means something so stupid no other “news” outlet would publish it) story allowing her to engage in some serious self-aggrandizing about her time in DC. She actually thinks that she beat liberals with her superior grasp of the facts.

Still, Bachmann has paid a price for her outspokenness, enduring harsh criticism and sometimes ridicule from the establishment media and others on the left. WND asked if she knew why she had become such a lightning rod.

“Well, telling the truth bothers them. They don’t like to have the truth told about them. And that’s really what it is. I didn’t fear the left. I decided to take them on in the arena of ideas by attacking their false premises and their false narratives,” she said…

Bachmann said the left hated whatever got in the way of its success.

“I took them on, and their agenda, and I went to the heart of whatever it was they wanted to advance, and tried to take it apart through evidence-based arguments, and they don’t like that. When the left argues, they argue from emotionalism.”

Bachmann contended that the left does not argue from a logical, linear point of view. So, she took on what she called leftists’ false premises and said providing evidence contrary to their views was the best way to defeat them.

She suggested the left couldn’t counter her facts, so it attacked her.

“I did that, and you do pay a price. I became a target for them, but so what? Why else am I here?” she asked. “I was here to advance the cause of liberty and freedom, and I am glad that I did what I did. It does come at a price.”

Look, we all tend to gild the lilly when speaking about ourselves. As Mencken pointed out, honest autobiography is impossible. But this goes well beyond viewing oneself through rose-colored glasses, this is downright delusional. There has been no one in Congress more immune to evidence and reality over the last few years than Bachmann. The fact-checking websites have consistently rated her among the least accurate people in politics, and for good reason.

“I’ve never had a filter on my mouth at all! No, I was very free. And that’s what got me into trouble all the time. I don’t know who’s happier to see me leave Congress, Nancy Pelosi or John Boehner.”

I know who’s gonna miss her most: Me. She’s been a one-stop shop of stupid for almost a decade now. I’m gonna miss her.

I’m guessing she didn’t know with whom she was posing?

    Michelle Bachmann states:

“Well, telling the truth bothers them [Bachmann’s critics].

I think she’s shooting for a career in comedy. Unfortunately for her, I don’t think she realizes that to be successful, the jokester also needs to be in on the joke.

Michele may not be afraid of the left, but she’s absolutely terrified of lesbians.

Sure, but who wouldn’t pose with a Muppet?

Really, Ed! You should give irony warnings. When my irony meter came to that, it clutched at its chest … er … case, gave a slight whimpering moan and fell over dead as a doornail.

That spectacle should enshrine her in the Bryan Fisher Award Hall of Fame.

She believes that Communist China is an exemplary capitalist country. Michele Bachmann Is Completely Unaware That China Is Communist | Wonkette

If you look at China, they don’t have food stamps. If you look at China, they’re in a very different situation. They save for their own retirement security…They don’t have the modern welfare state and China’s growing. And so what I would do is look at the programs that LBJ gave us with the Great Society and they’d be gone.

lpetrich, to be fair, she’s only as ignorant about China as she is is about LBJ.

A decade in Congress – just think of the damage she could have caused had she realized Congress makes laws & budgets!

I am so tempted to add her portrait to the wiki page on the Dunning-Kruger Effect:

Can anyone name one accomplishment Bachmann has made in Congress besides getting her face on Fox?

Listening to Bachmann I recall the George Carlin bit about what would happen if you taught a kid wrong on purpose. What fun it could be to raise a kid to inherently think wrong. And then it occurs to me that his is not just a bit of light hearted conjecture, that is, in fact, exactly what happened to Bachmann. In her formative years she was given the right-wing cannon of misunderstanding and she took it all to heart as the unvarnished truth. She bought the lie of American exceptionalism. The false claim that free markets self correct and punish wrong does. The assertion that Eugene McCarthy was an all-American hero and patriot that saved the US from communism. That liberals are weak and lousy at foreign policy. That … you get the point.

She took it all in as the straight honest truth. Truths so central to her being and world view that they can never be doubted or questioned. Because of this if anything comes to light that might cause doubt of these articles of faith it must be rejected, denounced, reviled and vilified. To keep the articles of faith in line she has to tie reality into knots. To make her understanding work she is forced to misunderstand the surrounding reality.

She isn’t alone in this. She is perhaps the freest of politicians with her words and so the contradiction stand out much more starkly but her misunderstanding of reality is not exceptionally wide or deep. Virtually any of the main figures on the right would say the same sort of things, possible worse, if you got a little whiskey into them.

Pretty sure you meant Tail Gunner Joe there.
