Why I’ll Miss Michele Bachmann

Michele Bachmann has left Congress for what will undoubtedly be a profitable career on the Christian rubber chicken circuit and as a paid contributor on Fox News. Rachel Maddow runs down some of Bachmann’s greatest hits misses, some of the dumbest things she said while in office. I’m going to miss her so much.

Miss her? Why? She won’t be gone, probably more visible than ever. e.g. Sarah Palin.

  • Mr Ed

I just read yesterday that $2 gas is all her doing. She may be kooky but she can get things done, even if she can’t point to how she did it.

My favorite: how Communist China is an exemplary capitalist country: Michele Bachmann Is Completely Unaware That China Is Communist | Wonkette

If you look at China, they don’t have food stamps. If you look at China, they’re in a very different situation. They save for their own retirement security…They don’t have the modern welfare state and China’s growing. And so what I would do is look at the programs that LBJ gave us with the Great Society and they’d be gone.

@Mr Ed: I didn’t know she was advising OPEC on their production levels.

  • Kevin Kehres

Yeah…I don’t think she’s going very far. There’s plenty of comedy gold to come.

I think Dan Hicks said it best, “How can I miss you when you won’t go away.”

Maddow is entirely correct that Bachmann functions as a probe to seek out the edges of political acceptability and to cut a path for GOP candidates to follow ever farther to the right. For far too long people have failed to listen to and take seriously the extreme right. They have been allowed to establish political bridgeheads and power bases far, far to the right of anything most Americans would consider reasonable and in doing so they have effectively shifted the entire political spectrum to the right.

So many issues have shifted to the right that they are entirely unrecognizable.

  • Randomfactor

Well, the right is claiming “drill, baby, drill” caused the drop in oil prices. (And of course, panic in the oil bidness, but that’s just their short-sightedness again.)

Never fear, Loius Gohmert, the dumbest man in Congress, has just announced his challenge to John Boehner for Speaker of the House.

  • tfkreference

“Drill baby, drill” is responsible, but not in the way she (and other RWNJs) think. It makes OPEC nervous, so they continue production to allow dropping prices. Once American production becomes less profitable – it’s already happening – and drilling stops, prices will rise. The same thing happened c. 2000. It sounds like a conspiracy theory, but what is a cartel if not a conspiracy?
