Another Black Conservative Lies About MLK

Ken Blackwell is the latest black conservative to lamely attempt to coopt Martin Luther King and turn him into a right-winger. He does so, predictably, by lying out his ass about him, claiming that he opposed welfare and the separation of church and state.

Ken Blackwell of the Family Research Council marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day yesterday by claiming that King — who supported guaranteed employment and minimum income, public works projects and policies advancing “democratic socialism” — was actually a big opponent of government involvement in the economy.

Blackwell told “Washington Watch” host Tony Perkins that King would strongly rebuke “the growth of the welfare state” and the separation of church and state, even though King actually spoke out against endeavors such as state-sponsored prayer in public schools.

They lie with such extraordinary shamelessness.

They all live in a world in which things that ought to be true (because Gawd) automatically are true … no need to fact-check Gawd’s words (in their heads).

He was also for voter roll purges, defunding ACORN, voter caging, voter ID, eliminating same-day registration and reducing early voting periods (ending it entirely on the Sunday before the election). True story.

MLK Jr. also was a fierce advocate of business owners’ right to restrict service to whomever they deemed worthy of such service.

The biggest lie I observe that’s currently being spread that involves MLK Jr. is by those who created the new movie Selma. I’ve read credible newspaper reports [1] that the movie presents President Johnson as an opponent of civil rights legislation rather than his actual role, which was the most powerful proponent of civil rights of that period and one of the most effective proponents of all time. Where the president also spectacularly succeeded.

I won’t watch Selma for that reason. Just like I wouldn’t watch the movie about killing Osama bin Laden given that it falsely asserts that torture played a role in finding Mr. bin Laden.

So while we see right-wingers constantly lying about MLK Jr., the current lie with the most traction that I observe is a liberal lie.

Worse, in multiple scenes it seems unaware that she has no sense of taste or smell, and the film completely cut out her pet iguana, Jub-Jub. It’s like the writers never saw The Simpsons at all!

    Another Black Conservative…

    There’s more than one?

@Area: I don’t think Ed is a fan of being corrected about minor typos. He meant to say “the other” rather than “another”.
