Staver: Marriage Equality = ‘America is Gone’

As we await a Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage in a few months, the anti-gay right is ramping up the rhetoric. Mat Staver, the dumbest lawyer in America not named Larry Klayman, says that if the Supreme Court rules in favor of equality then “America is gone.”

“The question is whether the church, whether the community, whether our society will sit back and tolerate it,” he said. “If they do, then America is gone.”

Such incredible power gay people must have if the mere act of them getting married will destroy the entire country. They must be like superheroes or something.

    I’ll miss good old America.

Where the dames and the queers and the coloreds knew their place and stayed in it?

Does Staver the schmuck promise to leave and go elsewhere if the SCOTUS doesn’t vote his way?

  • Broken Things

Doesn’t every wingnut say this every week? Seems like I see the the same lead with all the time.

  • Broken Things

HTML fail. Should be: seems like I see the same lead with [insert wingnut here] all the time.

And Matty has absolutely compelling evidence that proves that is a bad thing, right?!?

    (Nah, didn’t seriously think so.)

This is the heart of the reactionary mindset, isn’t it? Any change to the status quo, ending slavery/desegregation/marriage equality, means the end of their cherished view of how things should be in America. And in 20 years, they’ll have something new to proclaim will be the end of America.

Matt is seemingly happy and willing to blame the religious right if they just sit back and tolerate a positive SCOTUS decision on SSM.

He will be a little disappointed when the long vaunted popular uprising/civil war fails to actually…well happen!…poor chap is like to be disgruntled a tad!

Notice how he actually pushing the blame on the jeebus legions, strong wiff of cos they ain’t jeebus besotted enough, dodgy game that Matt, you might not like their remedy for public finger pointers, especially ones that apparently openly question their drooling quotient, you might find out otherwise Matt, either with or without a revolution!

I confidently predict that if the Supreme Court rules in favor of gay marriage, natural disasters will occur in the future.

I would love to hear what his idea of an ideal America actually is and then compare that to anytime during US history, my gut feeling is that we would be heading back to puritan times to find something equivalent.

Its a good sign. To mix imagery, the dark is the most spittle-flecked just before the dawn.

Odd super heroes. When they get up to their gay gayness in Massachusetts or New York or California, they have the power to cause tornadoes … in Arkansas. And hurricanes … in South Carolina. And occasionally a tsunami in Japan or a typhoon in the Philippines.

At Colagno: Fundies should move to Iran to escape US-America’s coming doom. If Bible-monster ever perfects his aim and wants to smite gay people, he’ll never suspect that there would be any in Iran or Saudi Arabia. Bonus — prayer isn’t only allowed in schools in those countries; it’s mandatory!

I have a vague recollection of some famous author or another talking eloquently about how people don’t realize that while the world they thought they knew may come to a close, the world will go on anyway — and that they’re often blind to when it’s done so before, even within their own lifetime. It means that what they thought was the case, never was after all.

Alas, my memory and Google-fu fail me.
