Robertson: Obama Too Muslim to Fight ISIS

It’s really hard to tell whether Pat Robertson is getting senile or not. I mean, it’s not like he was the most coherent person on the planet 30 years ago, right? But the steady stream of idiotic claims threatens to read Noah’s flood proportions these days. To wit:

“If we would put together a serious effort, we would have a coalition of the willing,” Robertson suggested on “The 700 Club” today, implying that Jordan is the only country interested in fighting the group. Robertson added that Obama’s supposed failure to build such a coalition is proof that he is an Islamist sympathizer.

“There’s something about Obama,” the televangelist said. “He is — I think his stepfather was a Muslim and he was schooled in Indonesia for a while, he’s very sympathetic to Muslims and the last thing he wants to do is to offend Muslims. He has members of the Muslim Brotherhood coming to the White House for conferences and so forth and there’s a tendency in him to think Muslims are more important, in a sense, than the United States. I don’t understand it, but we’ve elected him and he’s in there for a little while longer. You just pray that he’ll have a wake-up call but until he does, we’re at very serious risk.”

Riiiiight. Obama refuses to attack ISIS. I mean, other than the more than two thousand bombing raids on their positions. That’s totally why he’s asking Congress to approve an Authorization to Use Military Force, including ground troops, against ISIS is Syria and Iraq. Because he’s just so pro-Muslim he won’t do anything to stop them. Tomorrow, on As the Moron Turns…

Someone should remind him that Jordan is a country run by Muslims.

The important measure in Robertson’s statement is “Obama.” If Obama does something, it is wrong or not enough. If Obama does nothing, he should have done it (even if it is something Robertson has opposed in the past). It is very easy to parse: any sentence containing “Obama” must also contain “wrong,” “evil,” “Marxist,” “Islamist,” “dictator,” “tyrant,” or any of the many, many variations thereof, which can be found in Right Wing Rhetoric for Dummies, available in the lobby for the low, low price of $9.95!

John, surely that ‘Dummies’ is redundant??

I have already reported them to the Commission on Repetitive Redundancy Bureau.

So to be clear, the claims are.

Obama is more Muslim than King Abdullah, custodian of Al Aqsa (the dome of the rock) the third most important site in Islam.

Muslims are offended by actions against ISIS more than by the actions of ISIS despite the group killing large numbers of them and advocating a version of Islam that insults the majority of Muslims

Are you suggesting this particular moron changes directions?

How DARE Obama talk to people? All that time spent talking is time that could be spent shooting people!

Only two thousand? That’s it? Why aren’t you liberals angry about such a trivial and minor number? A Republican president would’ve had two thousand by now! Plus Osama bin Laden would be dead!

I guess the Republican majority in Congress is Muslim also because I haven’t heard them propose a declaration of war on ISIS.

Listening to Pat Robertson gives me flashbacks to when I used to volunteer in nursing homes. They don’t really know what’s going on in the modern world, but smile and nod and draw them out and be glad that they’ve still got that spark.

I blocked the ABC Family channel in my grandmother’s apt. because of the 700 Club. That was a reaction to walking in to see her crying. According to my Grandma, Pat Robertson had just told his audience that Muslims were stealing their social security. My grandmother’s 97 and has lost her sharp, liberal, mind.

Let’s be clear about conservative Christians. They’re not merely immoral because they base their beliefs on falsified premises and lie. Far worse is that they also cause others to suffer; where from my perspective, they largely don’t give a fuck about how irresponsible they are when it comes to both their rhetoric and the behaviors and policies they promote.

They are at a minimum immoral. I’m increasingly concluding many, including the ‘salt of the earth’ types, are demonstrably evil.

Egads. Even if he himself believed it, irresponsibility this extreme is immoral. We both know he will give no corrections or updates or reassurances that it was a “false alarm, so you can relax.”

I never saw anyone watching Robertson in the nursing home — though they probably did. My point was that listening to him reminds me of listening to elderly people spout off on bizarre or misinformed topics while paying little concern to actual content because it’s really about engaging their minds and “Pat sure is spry today.”

But my analogy to the harmless old gentleman sounding off nonsense in a nursing home is, as you point out, invalid. Pat Robertson affects real people. Even and maybe especially harmless old ladies and gentlemen in reduced circumstances.

He’s talking about the same US President who got Osama bin Laden. ’nuff said really!
