WND Spreads Absurd Lie About Egypt, Clinton and Obama

The Worldnetdaily and many other right wing “news” outlets are pushing this ridiculous rumor that Egypt has charged President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for aiding the Muslim Brotherhood, which the current Egyptian government considers a terrorist group. As usual, this is completely false.

A WorldNetDaily report, written by none other than birther investigator Jerome Corsi, about how the Egyptian government is prosecuting President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for aiding terrorism has started to be picked up by other right-wing outlets eager to publicize the huge news.

None seem to have noticed that Corsi’s claim is not only unfounded, but is rooted an anti-Semitic conspiracy theory that the Zionists who “control” America and Israel put the Muslim Brotherhood in power in Egypt in order to divide and bring turmoil to the Islamic world.

Of course, as Snopes points out, the report of the terrorist charges are a complete fabrication that seems to have been based on a misreading of a single post on an Egyptian blog. Not to mention that it would be odd for Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to meet with Obama and Clinton while also accusing them of terrorism.

The gullibility of some people is amazing. How could anyone really believe that this would be true, especially given the close ties between our government and the Egyptians? It’s incredible, really.

Pity some foreign government doesn’t charge them. Not for this mishegoss but for the actual crime of not prosecuting Bush, Cheney, et al for torture.

I’m with D.C. on this one. I voted for Obama the first time around, and realized I was in for a big disappointment when he started with that, “We need to look to the future,” line of crap. He’s refused to follow up on his constitutional obligations to prosecute known and admitted torturers.

I would argue that the Libyan debacle, the Yemen situation, etc. etc. are pretty much textbook “terrorist” actions, but the nuts at WND want, if anything, MORE blood and war, so glass houses and all of that.

I might have been a bit more forgiving of the “look forward, not backward” if it hadn’t been so selectively applied to excuse torturers, major financial crimes, money laundering, and high-ranking officials who leaked genuinely dangerous secrets while applying the century-old Espionage Act to journalists in ways where Shrub and even Nixon drew the line.

    Zionists control Israel??!!? Who knew?

The conspiracy theory, unsurprisingly, has everything back-to-front. Israel and the USA – along with Maryam Namazie although less openly – celebrated when Morsi was overthrown. Morsi was friendly with Hamas, while the Al-Sisi junta has declared it a terrorist organization, and is prosecuting members of the Muslim Brotherhood for helping it. While the USA did a bit of tut-tutting when the freely elected President of Egypt was overthrown in a miliatry coup, it has pointedly taken no significant action against the junta, despite its suppression of secular democrats as well as Islamists.
