John Oliver Blasts Dr. Oz

John Oliver brilliantly skewered Dr. Oz, the con man who sells “miracle cures” to his credulous followers. It’s an ingenious takedown, as usual for Oliver.

Excellent range of criticisms. I was particularly pleased to see Oliver dismantling Oz’s pathetic claim that his Constitutional rights were being violated by other doctors calling out his bullshit. Not sure if that argument is the last refuge of a scoundrel, the first refuge of a scoundrel, or a refuge somewhere in the middle of Scoundrel Territory, but refuge of a scoundrel it is.

  • dcsohl

That argument is the last refuge of an idiot.

The first refuge of a scoundrel is to be wrapped in the flag, the second is to claim his/her freedom of speech is being violated (even if the government is no where to be seen) and the third refuge is a plane ticket to a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with the US.

It’s an argument that works every time. The fans of Dr OZ will accept it without question.

Then there’s this one, where we not only get to see John Oliver take Mehmet Oz down, but we get to see Steve Buscemi tap dancing. Really!

    Don’t miss this one.

  • longship

Plus, Oliver actually takes one down the legislative history of the supplement deregulation mess.

And there’s still the climax with Buscemi tap dancing and the Black and Gold Drum group drumming. And a puppy. And other diversions.

    It is a brilliant bit.

    Oz is toast! Hopefully.

    I’ll repeat the link:

Its a shame Comedy Central couldn’t have kept Oliver for another year or two, and offered him the replacement spot for either Colbert or Stewart.
