Wingnuts: Help Us Obi Cruz, You’re Our Only Hope.

Trevor Loudon went on Larry Pratt’s radio show and they agreed that only Ted Cruz can save America, like Joseph McCarthy did. Pratt is the head of Gun Owners of America, a group that thinks the NRA are a bunch of weak-kneed liberals, so this should be taken with a metric ton of salt.

Loudon promised Pratt that his movie “will go way further” than Dinesh D’Souza’s anti-Obama polemics “in exposing the Marxist” Obama. “America stands in the balance, and if America goes down, every Western country will fall, including my own,” he said.

Claiming that the president and dozens of members of Congress “could not pass a basic FBI security clearance to clean the toilets at any military base in your country,” he told Pratt that “Americans deserve to know the traitors that they have in their government.”

“If the Democrats get elected again, they’re going to dissolve the southern border, they’re going to legalize all the illegals, they’ll turn Texas blue, they’ll give them the vote, and basically you’ll have a one-party state in America,” he warned.

“Ted Cruz or a comparable patriot has to win the next election,” he said. “That is not a negotiable.”

Pratt was very impressed, telling Loudon, “Really, not since Joe McCarthy has anybody been willing to call these people out and say, ‘You don’t have the best interests of the country at heart.’”

Loudon is from New Zealand, but he has learned his “enemies in our midst” rhetoric from Tailgunner Joe and the John Birch Society quite well.

    What a Pratt indeed!

  • StevoR

“Really, not since Joe McCarthy has anybody been willing to call these people out and say, ‘You don’t have the best interests of the country at heart.’”

And didn’t that work out well for Joe and everybody eh?

Seriously, is this fuckwit really suggesting Jo Mc-fucking-Carthy as a positive role model here? If so, why and how and what the fuck?

  • Larry

Sure StevoR, if a self-hating, closeted homosexual who lied about being a tail gunner in WWII and who made up the numbers of “communists” in the state department before leaving the Senate in disgrace and ultimately drinking oneself to an early grave isn’t enough of a role model for uber-patriots like Pratt, who is?

  • sugarfrosted

@2 Well if you assume that everyone he targeted was an evil communist infiltrator that is waiting to stab you in the back. He’s a great role model who saved us all.

    If you’re not delusional though…

  • brucegee1962

My understanding is that the “McCarthy was a misunderstood hero who saved America from Communism” meme is quite popular among many far-right groups. It would be interesting for some media types to ask the candidates about him, so we can find out how far this view has crept into the mainstream of the party. VERY informative, if it has.

Plus, it’s so much fun to see the look on candidates’ faces when they realize, “I can’t answer this question in any possible way that won’t either antagonize the primary voters or make me look like a dangerous psycho to everyone else.”

  • raven

    Not impressed.

If Loudon is going to dig up extinct monsters, like the Commies, why not go for something a little more interesting.

Hmmm, dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are a twofer. Not only are they big and scary, but you can shoot them with all the guns you’ve bought.

    Re Larry

The evidence that McCarthy was a closeted gay man, AFAIK, consists of his close association with Roy Cohn, a known homosexual who later died of AIDS. Even his very negative Wiki page is dubious about that accusation.

  • sugarfrosted

@7 Still better evidence than “shared a bed with other guys in rural Illinois in the 1800s” that’s often trotted out to claim Lincoln was gay. (Not saying much.)

    Re brucegee1962 @ #5

Interestingly enough, Allan Weinstein who served as the Archivist of the United States and who was no comsymp wrote that all the “communists” in the State Department that McCarthy actually got around to naming (the number so identified were far less then his accusations of 100 or more he made in his various speeches) were long gone before his investigations began.

US employers add solid 223K jobs; rate 5.4 pct., 7-year low

Headline tody. Unemployment is at a 7 year low.

Stock markets and corporate profits are at record highs. The economy has been slowly expanding for 7 straight years. The housing market has recovered. Wall Street hasn’t yet found their next scam and destroyed the economy again.

If this is Marxism, we need a whole lot more of it.

Loudan, Pratt, and the John Birch society are just lunatic fringers. Unfortunately for us, the lunatics have a lot of influence in the current USA. They may even end up running the asylum like Bush and Cheney did. With disastrous results.

  • dingojack

“… they’ll turn Texas blue, they’ll give them the vote, and basically you’ll have a one-party state in America.”

So — after painting the state a fetching cerulean shade, they’ll give Texans the right to vote which will turn Texas into a one party state, for sure.

It seems Pratt has been emulating McCarthy’s drinking habits.

SLC – dubious sources making dubious claims – hell, that’s never stopped you before!

    Re dingojack @ #11

Considering that the schweinhund ofter links to Wikipedia pages, his claiming that a Wiki page is dubious is truly ironic.

  • bmiller

I did a little Google-Fu on the “Was McCarthy Gay”? question, and there were rumors of him “spending the night” with various men, etc. etc. etc.

And, he was definitely a demagog and all that.

But, was he really the ultimate personifcation of evil we like to think of him as? I’m less sure.

I thought this was an interesting revisionist view. Not a historian, not sure I agree with all or much of this, buit definitely some interesting points:

    I await the flaming! (LOL)

  • Larry

When your answer is Ted Cruz, you’re asking the wrong question

  • dingojack

SLC – Bwhahahahahahahaha!!!! Your idiocy sure is showing tonight.

Think dubious claims to Jewish ancestry, numbnuts.

What, did you really think those unsubstantiated claims would vanish down the memory-hole?!?

    Dingo 😀

  • raven

But, was he really the ultimate personifcation of evil we like to think of him as?

    Yes.

A drunken, power mad, demagogue who lied a lot.

McCarthy and McCarthyism destroyed a lot of lives. There was a blacklist in Hollywood of all places that prevented many people from working for decades.

  • raven

At the time of McCarthy, fear of the commies was very high.

We were facing off against them in Europe after they took over the eastern half of it. And invented the Iron Curtain. Both sides had nuclear weapons. The commies were threatening to bury us. They also took over China and Cuba and were trying to take over the bottom half of Vietnam. It really looked like a Red tide engulfing the world.

If the anti-communism hysteria had gotten any worse and there was a Gulf of Tonkin incident, real or made up. we might have had WW III. With nuclear weapons.

  • k_machine

If you want some classic Joe, why not take a look at “America’s Retreat from Victory” wherein Joe accuses George Marshall (of Marshall plan fame) of being a communist for hundreds of pages.

  • Who Cares

    @k_machine(#18):

That is mind boggling, if there was something that kept West Europe from going communist it was the Marshall plan.

    @Raven(#10):

I’d say that Wall Street has found their next scam but due it not having blown up yet we don’t know.

That said you do know the excuses trotted out by the anti-Obama squad about the unemployment statistics. Everything from they are deliberately massaged to look better to they are not showing the right kind of unemployment numbers. Can’t have let Obama have credit for something positive now, do we?

Apparently at some time in the past eight years a weird phenomenon began. If you put your ear to Karl Marx’s grave you can hear muffled cries of “What??!? What the hell?!?!?! WHAT?!?!?!?!!?”

  • colnago80

    Re dingojack @ #15

I am afraid that the schweinhund is seriously in error. At no time in any way, shape, form or regard did I claim that Hister had Jewish ancestry via his alleged paternal grandfather Leopold Frankenberger. You and your fellow miscreants are the ones claiming that the Frankenbergers were a Jewish family. As a matter of fact, although there may have been such ancestry in their line of descent at one time, it is likely that when

Alois was born the family had long since converted to Catholicism through mixed marriages.

  • colnago80

    Re Tabby Lavalamp @ #20

Karl Marx would not have recognized the economic system in the former Soviet Union as Communism. In fact, it was monopolistic State Capitalism.
