Another Prominent Minister Caught Lying About Credentials

Inflating credentials seem to be an epidemic among the Christian right, from Kent Hovind and his useless PhD to Carl Baugh and his self-decreed doctorate. Add Ravi Zacharias, who calls himself doctor while not having an actual doctorate and claims to have been a “visiting scholar at Cambridge” when he just did a sabbatical at a church school that is not part of Cambridge. This video provides the documentation:

Wottabunchalosers. Donald trump is the WORLD’S GREATEST inflator of credentials!!!

  • Modusoperandi

I don’t see the problem. Is the step from having credentials in imaginary studies to having imaginary credentials in imaginary studies really so great?

  • Synfandel

    I imagine not.

  • Artor

Goddamit Modus! How many fucking Internets do you have already?!?

…claims to have been a “visiting scholar at Cambridge”…

    He was visiting.

He was a scholar (on sabbatical).

He popped into Cambridge for a visit.

    Open and shut.

Maybe it was a typographical error – he was visiting a scholar at Cambridge.

I remember I ran into a photographer once who claimed to have “hundreds of photos in print” After a bit of digging and application of the harsh needle of delicate enquiry I determined that he was referring to the fact that he occasionally used his printer to print a photo.

Hey…come to think of it. I once spent a lovely weekend in Cambridge Wisconsin back when I was a student at DePaul U. I guess that makes me a “visiting scholar at Cambridge” also too as well.

  • macallan

To his defense, he meant Cambridge, Kentucky.

  • LykeX

Well, lying through your teeth is a basic skill for a minister, so this actually just demonstrates his credentials.

I know quite a few people with PHDs, including my daughter and her husband.

I’ve noticed that most of those people only use their honorific in professional situations, and even then fairly rarely.

  • Dr X

I’ve heard this guy a couple of times. An obvious bullshitting poser who tries to affect the manner of a scholar.

The only thing that people like this understand is authority, so they borrow or create it to satisfy their desperate need to be taken seriously.
