Obama Trolls Conservatives Again

On his trip to Kenya, President Obama trolled the far right a couple times. First, he joked that he was only there to find his birth certificate. Second, he joked about how he thinks he would win reelection if he could run a third time. Michael Savage predictably took the bait. What Obama actually said:

President Obama said that if he could run for a third term he thinks he would win, while calling for African leaders to adhere to term limits during a historic speech before the African Union.

“I actually think I’m a pretty good president. I think if I ran, I could win. But I can’t,” Obama said in Ethiopia on Tuesday. ” There’s a lot that I’d like to do to keep America moving, but the law’s the law.”

And Savage’s inevitable response:

Conservative talk show host Michael Savage, however, saw the real meaning of Obama’s remarks, suggesting that the president will try to circumvent the Constitution and seek a third term.

He told listeners yesterday that Obama may try to get around the 22nd Amendment by saying, “We don’t need elections, I’m Barack Obama, we don’t need no elections, I’m Barack Obama, I nullify the election.”

Troll level: Master.

"Three weeks to the election as of this coming Tuesday."

Obama makes a bloody good troll.

The Rethugs are easy marks too.

When I encounter a wingnut predicting that Obama will not leave office at the end of his second term (which doesn’t happen often because I don’t move in those circles, but I have a few crazy relatives), I challenge them to put their money where their mouths are. “Want to wager some money on that? Just name the amount.” I have yet to find one who will take the bet. Too bad. It would be the easiest money I ever made.

  • Numenaster

And they know it, too. They just can’t admit it to one another.

    @ ^ Yup.

    Go Obama!

Nice to see him having fun. He’s earnt it.

Also, the Repubs are sure makin’ it “easy” for him, trollin’~wise. Not intentionally sure – last thing they’d want I know – but still.

I’m loving the attitude. And Hilary et al. should take note: his public approval rating hasn’t dropped since the last election. In fact, its up a few points. So the myth is wrong: no, you do not need to appear conciliatory or nonpartisan in order to govern effectively or work well with Congress.

Trolling the nut jobs and getting strikes is easier than dropping a baited hook into a tank full of hungry trout at a fish hatchery.

Look, everybody knows that there are no term limits under Sharia Law.

Who can stand against Obama now that all conservatives like Savage have been inprisoned in FEMA camps?, Ted Nugent? no, he’s dead. Rush Limbaugh? No, he moved to Costa Rica. There is no one left to stop the black juggernaut.

  • Die Anyway

It did work for trolling the Republicans but I took it more as a dig at several African leaders who have ignored their own term limits.

As much as he still has a lot to answer for (drones, surveillance, not prosecuting the torture regime, etc), “Lame Duck” Obama has been a lot more fun to watch.

“I actually think I’m a pretty good president. I think if I ran, I could win. But I can’t,” Obama said in Ethiopia on Tuesday. ”There’s a lot that I’d like to do to keep America moving, but the law’s the law.”

Is he really “trolling” US conservatives? He could be, but it sounds to me like he’s simply making a point to African heads of state, and their supporters, that you can’t just ignore the rule of law because you think you need to stay in power forever because you’re the best leader so you gotta ignore that pesky law. This is an important point that needs to be made (not just in Africa either); and calling it “trolling” kind of belittles the substance of what he’s saying.

OTOH, it is good fun to see the wingnuts freaking out. Less depressing than hearing them make their own speeches, at least…

    Georgia Sam:

They know that they won’t be able to pay up since they will be in a FEMA concentration camp

I’m looking forward to observing Obama’s future career.

Besides being stupid this is just, well… stupid!

Also, take note: there was no parade of 4,000 to 5,000 bare-nekkid protesters during his visit to Kenya. Nay, not even the instigator himself showed up.

    Slightly off-topic.

Funny ad on the left. FreedomWorks (splinter group of a Koch created astroturf group) wants to get rid of Boehner. Guess they want term limits for house speaker as well :)
