Of all the forms of political pandering, the most irritating to me is when politicians start going on about flag burning. And I’m certainly not the least bit surprised to see Donald Trump say that anyone who does that should either lose their citizenship or spend a year in jail.
Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag – if they do, there must be consequences – perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail!

He isn’t even in office yet and he’s already trying to shred the First Amendment. By all means, let’s burn free speech rather than burning a piece of colored cloth. That’s a great idea, isn’t it? By the way, Donald, you keep saying that you favor Supreme Court justices in the mold of Antonin Scalia. Guess what? Scalia voted twice in the majority to overturn bans on flag burning on free speech grounds. Not that you’d know that, of course, because your ignorance is virtually boundless.
And please don’t try to tell me that this is some attempt by Trump to distract attention from (fill in the blank with whatever you’d rather talk about). He doesn’t have that kind of discipline. He just spews out every damn fool thought that pops into his head. He isn’t playing three-dimensional chess; he’s lucky to be one-dimensional.
