Dinesh D’Souza’s Wheel of Misfortune

Dinesh D’Souza has completed his mission to full-blown buffoon by blindly accepting the claim of a former game show host that the organizer of the Nazi rally in Virginia, Jason Kessler, was an Obama supporter and running with it on Twitter. It’s all based on one of the worst cut-and-paste photoshop jobs you’ll ever see.

And yes, that’s Chuck Woolery, former host of Wheel of Fortune and now the host of a right-wing podcast called, ironically, Brute Force Truth. Notice that neither Woolery nor D’Souza cites even a scintilla of evidence for this claim, which is now circulating around the wingnutosphere. It originated with one of the seemingly endless number of right-wing “satire” sites that just publishes fake news and relies on ignorance and dishonesty to get spread around. Snopes has all the details.

The closest he comes to supporting this claim was a link to an article on the Southern Poverty Law Center page about Kessler that said “rumors abound” that he was an Obama supporter and Occupy Wall Street protester.

Then the fake news site Our Land of the Free ran with it, claiming that the man who drove the car who murdered Heather Heyer was Kessler (that was James Fields; Kessler organized the rally) and included this terrible cut and paste job:

Helen Keller could tell that’s fake, but that hasn’t stopped this story from ricocheting all around the wingnutosphere and finding its way to D’Souza’s Twitter feed. And of course, his fans turned it up to 11, adding all kinds of details to this ridiculous conspiracy theory that the whole thing was staged by the left. John Podesta was behind the whole thing, and Soros of course. One person left a screenshot of a Craigslist ad looking for actors to take part in a crowd scene…in Charlotte, North Carolina. Because that totally proves that they were being hired for a fake protest in an entirely different city and state. Oh, and David Duke is one of those secret liberals too:

And then, of course, Trump himself is in on it:

Personally, I’m not going to come to any conclusions until I hear what Wink Martindale has to say about it. He’s the real authority.
