Republicans Refuse to Defend Trump on Charlottesville

Media Matters documents five different shows on cable news in the aftermath of the Charlottesville white supremacist rally that tried mightily to get a Republican, any Republican, to come on and defend, or even address, Trump’s serial botching of a response.

There are three of them, all of which contacted literally every Republican senator and many in the House as well and no one would come on. I think that’s important to note, both because it may be an indication that Republicans are finally distancing themselves for Trump and because it further isolates both Trump and his white supremacist followers. That may be an indication of what is to come in 2018, when Republicans may be forced to run against Trump rather than with him in Senate and House races, especially in swing states.
