Sean Hannity’s show is losing advertisers quickly and he is freaking out over it. When Angelo Carusone of Media Matters for America, went on CNN to talk about a boycott urging advertisers to stop buying ads on his show, Hannity fired up his hypocritical outrage machine on Twitter:
Zuckers @CNN gives a platform and pass to a known racist, anti Semitic bigot. Mmfa record is atrocious as they are the most anti free speech, pro censorship group in America. This is why so few people watch #FakeNewsCNN tick tock… https://t.co/177yzUKTWc

He provides no evidence that Carusone is a racist or an anti-Semite and I have no idea what he could possibly be referring to. But the rest of it is, at the very least, sheer hypocrisy. Hannity has supported lots of boycotts over the years, as have most conservatives. Have you ever once heard him criticize the American Family Association for their years-long campaign to boycott companies that aren’t sufficiently pro-Christmas in their view? Why isn’t that a threat to free speech? Why isn’t that pro-censorship?
All of this is nonsense. Those advertisers have stopped buying ads because they have concluded that it’s bad for business. It’s that invisible hand of the market that Hannity claims to love so much until it potentially hurts his paycheck. He’s freaking out because he knows that advertisers pulling out is exactly what sunk Glenn Beck and Bill O’Reilly at Fox News, and they both had higher ratings than Hannity does. So he knows he’s at real risk of losing his show and the huge salary that comes with it.
But if he does, he will have capitalism to blame for it. But he’s pro-capitalism (so am I, by the way), so he can’t say that. That’s why he has to rage incoherently against liberals instead, it’s the only way to avoid the cognitive dissonance.
