Deranged fantasist Rick Wiles took a position you rarely here from the Christian right these days, an anti-Jewish position that God did not create Judaism. In fact, he says the Star of David is a pagan symbol and that modern Jews are really the descendants of the Babylonians.
“I’m sorry to shock all the hardcore Christians Zionists,” he said, “but modern-day Israel’s Star of David flag has nothing to do with King David and ancient Israel. It has nothing to do with God. The Star of David flag was inspired by Kabbala. The star in Israel’s flag is the same star god condemned by God in Amos 5:26, which says, ‘But you carried a tabernacle for your Moloch and the image of your idols and the star of your god, which you made to yourself.’”
“I will be very direct with you,” Wiles continued. “If you have a flag, a pendant, a poster, any item with the Israeli Star of David image, you have an occult image in your home, in your church, in your office or on your body and I say to you now, get rid of it. Maybe you didn’t know it until now and God will allow you some grace here because you didn’t know what it was. But I’m telling you now that that Star of David image that you are wearing or that you have in your church or in your office or on your website, I am telling you it is Babylonian occult Kabbala imagery and now you know it, now you have to make a decision what you are going to do with it because now you don’t have that grace to say, ‘Well, I didn’t know what it was.’ I just told you what it is, it is Kabbala occult imagery. ”
Okey dokey. This used to be a much more common position among Christian fundamentalists but these days it’s mostly relegated to the fringe. Premillenialism became very popular and incorporates the reestablishment of Israel as a key component of their end times theology, so embracing Israel and the Jewish people became far more common.
