Trump’s Faux Religious Freedom Nonsense

The Trump administration is announcing a new policy that would protect the “rights” of healthcare workers to refuse to treat patients based on their religious views, including treating transgender patients (gay too? It’s inconsistent otherwise). And the White House put out this ridiculous tweet about it:


Okay, I’m just spitballing here, but let’s say someone’s faith teaches them that they should own slaves and that it’s okay to beat them to within an inch of their lives as long as they don’t die. Neither the 13th Amendment nor laws against assault and battery apply to them if this position is to be taken seriously, right? Because they shouldn’t have to choose between their faith and the law, faith always takes precedence.

Also note that this is not a hypothetical. The Bible says precisely those things.
