Comey Hit with the First Law of Trumpodynamics

The First Law of Trumpodynamics is, of course, the law that for every Donald Trump tweet there is an opposite tweet from earlier that contradicts it. Only this time it’s contradicted not by a tweet but by an interview on national television that virtually everyone has seen. Here’s the tweet from yesterday, which he vomited out after seeing James Comey on the Today show:

But in that now-infamous interview Lester Holt after firing Comey, Trump plainly said that he fired him over the Russia investigation. While his press people were claiming that he fired Comey because of his mishandling of the Clinton investigation, as laid out in a letter by Rod Rosenstein, Trump said that he would have fired Comey anyway and it was because of the Russia investigation. He said, “When I decided to just do it, I said to myself, I said, ‘You know, this Russia thing with Trump and Russia is a made-up story, it’s an excuse by the Democrats for having lost an election that they should’ve won.'”

Does he think that video doesn’t exist? That no one remembers? No, he’s just doing what Trump always does. Unlike Humpty Dumpty, who merely thought that words meant whatever he declared them to mean, Trumpty Dumpty thinks that reality is whatever he says it is. He’s the guy who, if his wife walked in on him and caught him having sex with another woman, would deny that he was doing the very thing he was caught doing, and say, “Who are you going to believe, me or your lying eyes?”
