Jerome Corsi, who went from writing for the Worldnetdaily to being the head of Alex Jones’ InfoWars DC bureau (talk about a giant step sideways), says that Trump met in secret with Putin so they could discuss their mutual enemy — the “deep state.” This, of course, is the latest title for that vague, amorphous “them” that rigs everything in the world to their own benefit — but somehow does not include billionaire oligarchs who run the most powerful countries in the world.
On today’s Infowars broadcast, Corsi joined Infowars host Owen Shroyer to praise Trump’s meeting with Putin. The two were effusive in their appreciation of Putin’s proposal that Russia be allowed to interrogate Americans—including Michael McFaul, former U.S. ambassador to the Russian Federation—in exchange for cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigation into suspected Russian election meddling. Corsi said that although the United States and Russia will naturally have different “nation-state interests,” Trump and Putin had a mutual enemy in people like Mueller, who Corsi accuses of being part of the “deep state.”
“Right now it is a fight to the death with the deep state for both Putin and for Trump and when they got together in their meeting privately, I’m sure they exchanged notes and realized that they were each dealing with the same enemy,” Corsi said.
And it’s just mind-blowing how these right-wing conspiracy theories about the world’s wealthiest and most powerful people being part of a shadowy conspiracy to rig the world’s economies to make themselves richer and more powerful never seems to include those who are on their side politically. Somehow the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Scaife and every other right-wing billionaire out there buying politicians to do things like weaken government regulations that protect workers’ rights or public health or the environment in order to boost their profits are magically, mysteriously, never part of this “deep state” or the Illuminati or whatever their label du jour is for this boogeyman on any given day.
