My Interview on The Drew Marshall Show

Last weekend, I was a guest on The Drew Marshall Show, a Canadian radio show that deals with religion.

You can listen to our conversation here.

On the same episode, Drew also interviewed David Hayward (a.k.a. nakedpastor), who’s still on a roll with his cartoons:

I love it.

The question is: Who’s getting strikes? Who’s getting splits? Who’s going straight into the gutter?

I listened to both interviews yesterday actually, and they were great. You field questions really well, Hemant – and I especially liked the way you handled the question about “fundamentalist” atheists with the IQ example.

Drew said later in the show (while talking to one of his Christian guests) that when he first heard of you, he thought “friendly atheist” was an oxymoron. I think it often takes a lot more for an atheist to convince a theist he’s “friendly” than a member of most other groups, which is unfair and unfortunate.

I consider Dawkins, for instance, quite friendly – he’s very polite and treats the people he talks to with kindness and civility. He doesn’t spare their *beliefs* criticism though, and since his take-downs are so high-profile, people get the idea that he’s unfriendly and it sticks, no matter how nice he actually is.

I am glad you said you like a lot of what Hitchens says, because he is usually right. Disliking his tone and tactics is fine.
