A Tremendous Jump in Generosity

Foundation Beyond Belief usually grows a little larger every quarter, but we had a *huge* jump in donations at the end of 2011 (and that doesn’t even include a fundraising drive we held).

Giving grew by 21% over the previous quarter and we were able to give a total of $38,450 to our selected charities! Seriously amazing.

If you’re a member or donor, thank you so much!

This year, we’re doing things a bit differently, removing ourselves as one of the charities, and going from 10 categories down to 5, allowing us to give more money to each of the selected organizations.

Some of our new beneficiaries include the Center for Reproductive Rights and Vidnyanvahini (an organization “bringing science education to rural India”).

If you’re not a member of FBB yet, please consider becoming one.

I’m a bit confused on your support of Islamic Relief USA. I am curious about this group that you support. At first look it appears that you are supporting a foundational religious organization. Note trying to “call out” anything. This is simply my interpretation. I’m open to clarification though. Thanks.

It’s a group that does purely secular work. Have any specific questions? Let me know. You can read more about them here: http://foundationbeyondbelief.org/2011-Q4-challenge_the_gap

They are in the ‘Challenge the Gap’ category. Religious but pragmatic organizations, doing work that many secular humanists can agree with. I think the idea is to show that working together for a common goal may be more important than minor differences in theistic views.

You can always choose to not donate money to that specific category if you don’t agree with the organization. Foundation Beyond Belief have a system where you donate a monthly total sum which you then divide by setting percentages for each category (the percentages is saved so you only need to set it once).

I’ve chosen to support the Challenge the Gap category with some of my money because the basic idea of working together is great! And the charities therein is doing good work for humans all over the world, regardless of their religious affiliations.
