That Lady You All Keep Telling Me About Is No Longer Selling Her Soul on eBay

Since all of you have sent me the story of the “lady who’s selling her soul on eBay,” I wanted to just point out a couple of things:

1) The listing has since been yanked off of eBay.

2) Her story is really depressing and my heart goes out to her. She’s been through a lot and the “cost” of her soul wouldn’t have been enough to fix everything. I really hope she gets better.

3) eBay does not allow you to sell your soul:

eBay does not allow the auctioning of human souls for the following reasons: If the soul does not exist, eBay could not allow the auctioning of the soul because there would be nothing to sell. However, if the soul does exist then, in accordance with eBay’s policy on human parts and remains, we would not allow the auctioning of human souls.

4) Yes, I know the title of my book. No, I didn’t actually sell my soul. Yes, I defend it on grounds of being catchy :)

Could one sell one’s breath on eBay? Does eBay make the claim that a soul could be a material part of the human body, and if they do then they need to show that it exists. Otherwise their position is invalid.

They should just be honest and say that they do not want to upset those who believe in the nonsense that is souls.

My question is: can I sell my flatulence on eBay, there is a market for methane, right? At least eBay won’t question whether there is substance to it and I can set a higher starting value the more substantial it is.

         Interesting point.

Did you even read the post. The relevant part of ebay policy is quoted.

Well this is great news for the black market, no more competition from a reputable source like eBay. Though I’ll bet a lot of people on Wall Street won’t be too happy about missing out on the chance to legally sell off more poor souls.

The eBay decision reminds me of Portia’s decision in _The Merchant Of Venice Act 4, scene 1, 335-343_.

Doesn’t “The Church” claim to deal in Human souls? Sounds kinda like dodgy business to me, even eBay won’t touch it!

Hey Hemant, could we try to do something to help make her life a little better? Like have a fundraiser for her, or help make sure she is set up to sell her homemade jewelry on Etsy and share the link so we can buy it, or something?
